We had an 18 year old Vitamix that we loved! I died a few months ago. Of course, we bought another Vitamix. However, we are having it shipped into to be looked at less than 9 months after buying it. It has a burning smell when using it, and it overheats when making things like black bean dip (using canned black beans). I thought the burning smell was due to it being new, but there continues to be a faint aroma. We purposely bought the more "basic" machine so that it would last longer. We have learned the things with more bells and whistles tend to break quicker. I am so incredibly disappointed in my new Vitamix. I don't understand how you can mess up such a good thing!

Hi! We are sorry to hear that you are not enjoying your new machine. To avoid overheating your machine in the future, be sure to ramp the machine up to the highest speed within five seconds of turning it on to activate the cooling fan in the motor. This will also give you the best blend in the quickest time. It is important to know that this new machine is more sensitive to overheating then your older one was, this is a safety feature for the protection of your machine. I love my white Vitamix! I can’t believe I waited this long to get it. It’s is a big purchase but it is so worth it. After trying different cheaper versions I quickly realized you get what you pay for. I did my research and finally, after seen this was recommended by the NYTs wirecutter I decided to take the leap and I am so happy! This one is powerful, easy to use and clean and does the job in seconds. Great for green juices and smoothies and so much more!

The power is a bit disappointing. I use to blend soup with lots of cooked veggies, so already soft, but still takes a long time to puree. Would select higher powered style next time.

We bought this to replace the exact same model that we’ve had for almost 10years. It’s not the same tho…even after a couple of months of almost daily use, sometimes multiple times a day, it still has a plastic smell when running. Most disturbing is the hesitation as it turns on and when switching from variable into high speed. It still does the job as always but seems less powerful than earlier model and the motor runs so choppily that it seems about to break every time I use it. Too bad the quality went down as the price went up…just like everything else I guess.
