Disappointing smoothie performance

I bought this to replace a Hamilton Beach machine that I used to make a daily smoothie. Unfortunately the 5200 does not perform as well as the much lower priced machine it replaced. Certain smoothie recipes that the HB machine handled automatically with its smoothie setting require me to carefully modulate the speed knob and stir the contents by hand, otherwise half the ingredients float unblended while the ingredients near the blades over blends and heat up. Otherwise the 5200 seems to be a powerful and well built machine.

So far, a great blender for making smoothies. Every day, my wife uses almost a pint of frozen berries, fresh yogurt and oat milk. The blender handles it like a champ and she especially appreciates the tamper. We haven’t had much chance to use it for anything else but if it makes quick work of that rock-solid clump of frozen berries, I’m optimistic about the other uses.

I love this blender. I almost returned because it’s very expensive and really I wasn’t sure it would be worth it. But I ended up keeping it. It has made me so creative in making smoothies! My old blender died and I was looking for a blender that works well and that would last a long time. Their warranty policy seems very good. For smoothies, the consistency is so much better in the Vitamix than other blenders I’ve tried. My main advice is use much less liquid on smoothie recipes. I find it liquifies very well and using less liquid has helped me get the cold yet flavorful consistency I’ve been looking for. Also the tip of starting on low and turning to high quickly has helped! Great purchase.

Excellent blender-- but it's loud

This blender does an amazing job at blending smoothies (kale stems, ice, flaxseed, etc.). It was easy to learn how to use it because it came with instructions and a recipe book. I use it once or twice a day and it has really helped me to adopt a healthier lifestyle because I can blend perfect smoothies with ease.
That said, there are some things I wish were different:
*It's TOO LOUD. Everyone in my household is worried that we're all going to lose our hearing because it is far too loud. We cover our ears and/or run for the hills when it is in use. Not ideal, but you can work around it.
*It can't go in the dishwasher. That said, it is very quick/easy to clean if you follow the instructions in the manual.
*The suction cups that help it to stay in place can leave a faint mark on your counters.

Fantastic - there is a reason why this blender is as expensive as it is, BUT it is WELL worth it! SUPER quiet and blends everything! Test Kitchen etc - they are all right. Just watch those video reviews, they speak for themselves.
