swiss army knife of trimmers

Great unit, plenty of power and versatility. Love that it works with by other batteries and is attachment ready. I have been able to use other Dewalt and Hart attachments with this unit and it has been flawless. More than enough power for the hart tiller, snow shovel and the Dewalt brush trimmer and edger and super easy transition to each attachment as well.

Powerful but the included trimmer has issues.

Overall, the power of this device is great. I was able to use it with existing attachments. My problem is with the design of the string trimmer attachment that came with it. The spool design is terrible, and I am always fighting it.

Clogs immediately

I bought this yesterday.
Im 79 and my days of starting a gas weed wacker are over.
The key to my purchase was the offer of a free 9Ah battery.
I had no trouble assembling it. The power seems adequate.
The problem is that there is way too much space between the housing and the string holder.
If I try to cut anything over 6 inches tall the trimmer immediately winds the crap up and stalls.
Pulling it out is not always sucessful, requiring a trip to the garage to disassemble and clean.
Im spending half my time clearing the junk out of it.
Tomorrow I will try to adjust my technique. but Im actually anticipating returning it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy rewind, powerful.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My experience with the tool would have been about 1000 times better had it not come out of the box with the drive nut upside down, causing the Quickload head to puke out string like crazy from slipping, and made me take several hours troubleshooting to finally realize what was wrong.

Best investment yet

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm absolutely in love with this battery powered beast of a trimmer, I have RA and the vibrations from gas ones just kill me within just a few minutes long before I have anything done, not this one though! Make sure to keep the string out at its full length to allow it to sling away tall grass and brushy weeds, knee tall think is no problem with the string at proper fed out length... I had a old Poulan pole saw attachment that works perfectly, and since then picked up a few more attachments. Of dozens of yellow tools, this is possibly my best investment to date and I highly suggest it! Just get a extra battery or 3...
I would recommend this to a friend!

Onhly good for light work and small yards

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had it for a year now. Bought it to cut around my rose bushes because iuts far weaker than gas powered. I use 12amph\ hour batteries. I have 4 of them and I go through all 4 plus I have to charge 2 others just to do the flower bed areas. The batteries get hot so they have to cool before you can charge them. The heads are trash. I go through 2 a year. Typical cheap plastic garbage. Still using the same head on my husquvarna which I use for the heavy work like the ditches. For the average homeowner with small yards and light work its fine. Beyond that stick to gas powered.
Now I am Dewalt guy. I have 10 impacts, drills, saws, reciprocating saws, jig saw, table saw, skill saw and so on. I generally love their tools. This just feel way short of expectations especially for the ridiculous price.

After very light usage the motor just stopped working. This is a common problem. Do not buy. DeWalt take this thing off the shelves

Versatile but noisy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My Troy-Bilt gas string trimmer quit on me. It allowed me to swap tool heads which the DeWalt tool offered too. Assembly was intuitive. Remove tube insert in the power head shaft and cap on the trimmer head. I tackled the yard and trimmed the landscape beds and edged the driveway. Trimmer noise was more excessive than what I expected. It sounded a lot like my old Black & Decker edger with the steel blade. I removed the trimmer head and the power head alone is even noisier than I expected. I inserted my Troy-Bilt trimmer head and noise reduced significantly. I was glad that I could rotate the trimmer head vertically which has not been mentioned in other reviews or documentation. Battery life seems good so far.
