I’m a returning DuroMax customer after three years, upgrading from the XP9000iH to the new XP9500iH — and once again, I’m blown away. These inverters truly set the standard for quality, performance, and pricing. The XP9500iH is powerful, smooth, and incredibly reliable, just like its predecessor but with noticeable improvements that make the upgrade absolutely worth it.

Hurricanes

We purchased the Duramax duo in preparation for Hurricane season. We wanted a generator that didn’t use gas as the fuel and was easy to start. We went thru Hurricane Ian and had used a gas powered generator that was not user friendly. Luckily this Hurricane season we were spared and have not had to use a generator.

9000 watt inverter, dual fuel

I purchased two units in spring of 2024, for two households and mounted each permanently in metal sheds, each hard piped to 330 gallon propane tanks. Factory support was prompt and helpful in questions about connection requirements. I start and run both units for ten minutes once a month year round. In the 18 months both units started each time and ran without issue. (This was important to me and why I waited this long to review )

Recently purchased a xp9500ih for emergency backup. Needed clean power for certain electronics. Still have my older Chinese diesel and it runs great but sine wave on that boy

The 9500 has been easy to break in and so far so good on startup and power available. Don’t need a monster unit as we live in New England and power loss in winter is more important than AC in the summer. Match that to a manual transfer switch and propane annd the number are spot on for requirements. The last big one is the wife factor. All she cares about is lights, heat and cooking. All good on those fronts. One last one is noise. She loves the drastic noise reduction on this unit vs my diesel so if she’s happy I am to!

I have owned this generator for 4-5 years. The only issue I had was battery dying for the key start but I could run the generator via pull start with no issues. Generator starts with 2 turns of the key or pulls on the rope start. Provides sufficient power to supply half of my house during outages. Never had a run issue with generator whenever needed.

Pleasant sound much quieter than I expected. Easy to use. I have an all electric house with manual transfer switch, and this works well as whole house backup provided I manage the load at the breaker panel. I bought this unit 2 years ago when it was rated 9000 watts, and I didn't want to review it before having lots of experience. I wanted propane fuel because that doesn't deteriorate over time like gas, and I wanted the inverter. I didn't want a permanently installed generator because of the expense and maintenance involved. This generator stores inside the garage and easily rolls out onto the driveway for use or regular testing. It is the best cost effective solution for me, and I've had no problems.
I use four 30lb propane tanks so I can fill them at the gas station. On one long power outage the generator came to a sputtering stop as it finished a tank, and I was really pleased when the generator started right back up with a fresh tank.
Starting the generator is easy. After pressing the button it cranks a few times, then pauses. The feed hose needs to fill with propane. It automatically tries again and starts right up. For strong starts it's best to recharge the starter battery after use. DuraMax made it easy, in storage just plug the adapter into the hole at upper right of control panel and connect to standard 120v socket. A green light on the adapter indicates full charge.
