A Truly Great Shaver

I highly recommend the newest line of Prestige shavers. The latest model (SP9841/84) comes with the pentagonal heads and the SH91 blades which deliver a smooth, close shave in five minutes. It also has the cleaning pod enabling the shaver to clean his shaver's head in one minute's time and then leave it to drip in the pod which provides a handy storage spot on the counter. Whereas the 9500 series also has the same head and cleaning option, its handle is not as ergonomic as the Prestige's making the 9500 far more difficult to handle. The older Prestige shavers (SP9820 and SP9860) have the rounded shaving heads but these do not allow the shaver to be cleaned in a pod and the head needs to be entirely removed to be thoroughly cleaned. On the newest Prestige the head flips open which is a much more useful way to clean the shaver under the tap on days you don't want to clean it in the pod. As an aside: I also have the older 9721 Norelco which came with the cleaning station that has heating coils to help dry the shaver. I discovered that the newer SH98 blades worked perfectly on that shaver so on a whim I removed the entire head from the 9721 and tried it on my new Prestige and it worked beautifully. So, on those days that I decide to shave with the rounded heads of the older Prestige, I can mount that head onto the handle of my new SP9841. When the shave is done I can remount the head onto my older 9721 and clean it in the older cleaning station. Options... I have plenty of great options and a superb shaver in my new Prestige. For those who do not have the older shaver, don't despair. The newest Prestige will provide you with all the shaver you really need so enjoy it. Just remember to turn it 90 degrees to get a closer shave under the nose and ears due to the pentagonally shaped heads. For the neck, cheeks and chin this rotation is not needed. A great shaver, guys.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My last 3 razors were Norelco and I liked them. I decided to upgrade and paid over twice the price. Good razor but not worth the extra price. It has the same head as my old razor so there was no improvement in shave. Cleaning the head is awkward. Whole razor head frequently comes off. Old razor had a button to release the part to allow for easy cleaning.

I have been using safety razors after getting tired of the razer burn from my foil razor. Did some research on electric shavers, reviews & techniques shaving with them.
Pre shave routine : after showering I applied beard oil to two days worth of stubble and waited two hours while the unit was charging.
Initial impression : unit was quite, well balanced and easy to maneuver. Cutting was efficient and did quite well around the mouth and under the nose. Ran the unit on the slowest speed to prevent razor burn (skin might feel slightly warm but not uncomfortable, I did forget to apply cold water to close the pores. Shaving time was not that long and did not have to do many passes, even worked well under the jaw line.
As for comparison to wet shaving, I could get closer but it would take more time and get a few nicks here and there.

Been using this shaver for over a month and I find it takes way to long to get the shave I want. Also, it is very difficult to finish off at the end of your sideburns and maintain a clean edge. Tried the trimmer it came with and it wasn’t any better
