The new turbo feature is really helpful, although it was not very intuitive for me to figure out how to use it - I had to go to the manual to see what icons to press, etc. But, once I knew how to turn on that feature, it was fun to see it at work, quickly ramping up the temp at the beginning of the cook, then settling to the finishing temp. Yes, it really is meant for meat cuts - steaks, chops, lamb ribs or loin, other loin or tenderloin - but that's great because that's what I use the sous vide method for 99.9% of the time anyway. And, you can still simply type in your specific desired temp and use it without the turbo feature, if you prefer or if what you're cooking doesn't benefit from turbo.

What Features? - It Doesn't Connect to the Internet

I bought this over 3 months ago and haven't used it yet. Every time I get it out to use it, it won't connect to the Internet or Bluetooth. I have 1 Gigabyte service and a mesh network with a satellite in the kitchen. Everything else I own (including my original Joule) work fine. What a classic waste of money.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I really love using Joule for cooking sous vide. I have several Joule devices now, but I like this new "Turbo" one the most. I'm a professional chef, and of all the different sous vide devices I've used, this is the one I like the most in terms of functionality. It enables me to really have perfect food every single time.
I feel like the technology hasn't really changed much on these things over the years - get the water to a specific temperature and keep it there, right? But the thing that sets Joule aside from the competition is the app that runs it. If I'm not sure how I want something cooked, there is a selection of tested temperatures, with pictures and videos of each one so I can see what the finished product will look like. It's the most user-friendly SV on the market (and I've used all of them), and I can also leave and keep an eye on my food as long I have my phone with me.
The other advantage that also sets it apart from other units is the size. It's compact enough that I can put it in my knife roll and take it to work if I need to, and the thing weighs almost nothing. I even took it camping this summer and we had some of the best steaks ever. If you're on the fence about getting a sous vide machine, this is definitely the one you should start with.
