I was using the David Clarks great headset. However, I switched over to the A-20 it was truly amazing !!! The very first moment I wore these it blew my mind how good they are! They are honestly worth every penny and the best investment a pilot can make.

Good sound quality but durability is an issue

Aviation is messy and certainly not and office job. We hit things, clothing, get stains have to climb over wings etc. You get the point, right? We need something sturdy if a headset falls from the wing to the ramp, it needs to be able to stand it as virtually all pilots have dropped bags, glasses, kneeboards and headsets for sure.

OEM FACTORY PILOT

As an factory pilot we get various headsets to try out. The Bose A20 wins everytime. We have 4 year old A20's that get used daily, while brand new "light" headsets are left on shelves and "sped" away from. Only issues have been cord wear, but is likely the nature of continuous plane swaps.

worth the price ?

Purchased these recently and for what it’s worth here are my thoughts (I am a major airline Captain currently flying Boeing aircraft)
Pros:
1) The best noise cancellation out there
2) Bluetooth works great for music (separate volume control, Bluetooth muted with primary communication so no interference between the two)
3) Bluetooth works OK for phone calls (one problem with this, see below)
4) Battery life seem good
5) Very well built
6) Communications crisp and clear
Cons:
1) Big, bulky, heavy
2) Major ‘clamping force’. This is not too noticeable until about the third hour, then I need to readjust the headset for comfort. The constant pressure creates some pain around the ears but seems to go away after you readjust.
3) Not designed for ‘single, off the ear use’ (if you don’t have an active (hot) intercom, you need one ear uncovered for approach and takeoff to communicate with the other pilot. These are just not designed for this application. They are very well made and there is no give so it’s difficult and uncomfortable to use them in this configuration.
4) Bluetooth phone calls – you cannot hear yourself talk through the headset while using the microphone ! (I just don’t like this, perhaps there is an adjustment somewhere to fix this issue but I have yet to find it).
5) Very quiet (a pro and con because if you experience even a little Tinnitus it is going to become very noticeable with these headsets)
6) They take up a lot of room inside your bag
7) The wires are a very heavy gauge. Even with the clips it can be difficult to find a comfortable position for the wires to drape over your shoulder.
8) expensive (worth the price ? while I do like the headsets, after using them for a while I would not purchase again but go with a less expensive headset. For this price there should NO cons !)

I have been Flying with A20's for over 5 years. They are an excellent, comfortable, Light weight and rugged. I am a US Marine Pilot and have loved using them in the MC-12 Aircraft. Very quiet and easy to forget you are wearing them!

5 years ago I used the Bose A-20 head lights, I never had problems and it is very noticeable in the rest that it generates when reducing the noise.

Bought the A20's(Bluetooth edition) one month and a half ago. Absolutely satisfied with the overall performance. 100% Value for money. Considered buying the AKG AV100 for a moment but in the end i chose the 20's and i am really happy with my choice.

Best Headset Around

You can't get a better headset out there for aviation than what Bose has to offer. The A20s are a huge upgrade from the Bose X than I had before. That was a solid pair of headsets but these are better! The noise cancelling is a must have when flying piston engine planes, and are a luxury in a jet. The bluetooth function is a great option too if you spend a good portion of flight on cross countries where there is a lot of time to kill in between "action".
