Great laptop

Bought this laptop as an upgrade from my old HP omen with a 3050 and it has been nothing but amazing. Screen is really nice and the power the 5080 creates is unmatched for a gaming laptop. You get the portability of a regular laptop, with speeds similar to that of a 5070 or a 5070ti on a desktop. Only complaint is that it is really heavy which is a good thing and means it is made well.

Lighting for business use

This computer was purchased for the 5080 processor power and its capability to drive a Samsung 57" Odyssey monitor for my use as a business executive. The time it took to defang the gamer mode flashing lights and rainbow colored keyboard was staggering, and came with zero instruction or web solutions. At a thousand dollars less than Alienware, its a great machine with perfect resolution for multiple MS Apps. I would think about adding a "for business" mode and ASUS would do well for the effort.

Great system, fast, quiet, and neat programs like Armoury Crate. My only issue why it's not 5 stars is the keyboard has been changed from traditional, and the keypad is smaller and moved keys.

Power House that runs very hot

This laptop is truly amazing. The only down side i have discovered so far is that this laptop runs extremly hot, dispensing very hot are from the rear of the laptop. This laptop would not be ideal in a small room or small space as it would literally act and behave similar to a space heater. As far as performance and quality this laptop is truly top tier.

Amazing Gaming Laptop

I was having to choose between the Asus G18, G16, and the Legion and after comparing all specs and prices I found the G18 to be the best bang for the buck. It comes with 2tb, 32gb, 5080 GPU, and an awesome monitor. Couldn't be happier, although it was bigger then I thought and a little heavier but to have better cooling capacity I'll deal with the weight.

Mediocre experience within a year

Within 6 months of owning it, I have an issue that if my GPU driver is too newly updated it can cause while playing videogames to crash often. It would freeze my screen, sometimes it goes white, sometimes black, sometimes it makes the sound like as if its a hair clipper. This month, my laptop on idle would slowly increase to 65 degrees Celsius. I tried to update MyASUS and since my laptop was hot it wont let me successfully boot it up until it cooled down. I am not sure if my device is faulty maybe it is

Dear Thomas,

Thank you for your comment.

We do understand your disappointment with the laptop and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing system crashes, freeze and excessive heat generation. It is normal for laptop, with the same hardware configuration and regardless of the manufacturer, to generate more heat than normal while under heavy load especially during gaming. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full throttle. To regulate heat generation, ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions to have efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While gaming ensure no resource-hungry applications, services and processes are running in the background, this will spike the temperature. You can check go to Task Manager to check how high system resource utilization is being used. The heat or temperature does decrease or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down. Additionally, update Windows, drivers, BIOS and the Armoury Crate utility software if outdated. Keeping the laptop updated will eliminate system crashes or freeze. Updates for the laptop are posted at: https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/rog-strix/rog-strix-g18-2025/helpdesk_download/. Furthermore, if you are playing these games online, please ensure the laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will affect system stability and performance. Configure your system, game, video and operating mode settings inside the latest version of the Armoury Crate utility software posted at: https://armoury-crate.com/. If these steps were performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/.

Cooling issues, fan grinding noise, power issues

Bought this laptop about 4-5 months ago. Only a couple months in and a horrific fan grinding noise started up, along with it powering off at random. If it wasnt the fan grinding, it was turning off *after* heavy usage, when load dropped.
Found out this model has severe issues with the pasting of its liquid metal, that leads to overheating of only *some* of the cores, which throws off the sensors, and leads to it shutting off, seemingly without reason, unless you're looking at the individual core temps.
I dont even know what is going on with the fan. Unscrewing and rescrewing it in seemed to helped, but it seems related to a power issue, and its currently in repair, due to all these issues.
I do not recommend.

Keys are hard to read with lighting. Having an extremely hard time trying to get VR to work on msfs2024. Touchpad is not intuitive. Probably will work out, but it's been a tough time getting to know this beast.

Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your comment.

We do understand your disappointment with the laptop and the inconvenience this may have caused if it did not meet your expectations. If keys are hard to read, try to adjust the brightness level using the hotkeys, " Fn + F3", and use the Armoury Crate utility software to to choose solid, high-contrast colors (like pure white) instead of shifting rainbows. If VR is not working properly on MSFS 2024, check if Windows, drivers(specifically graphics driver), BIOS, applications and MSFS 2024 are up to date. Updates for this laptop are posted at: https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/rog-strix/rog-strix-g18-2025/helpdesk_download/. The touchpad is a smart device, you need to allow some time to get used to the multi-touch function of the pad. To improve the touchpad responsiveness and stability, ensure the laptop is up to date. Additionally, if you are accessing web applications, check if this laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor and unstable internet connection will affect the responsiveness of the touchpad.
