Our Touchstone Side 45 has been in place for a few months and it has exceeded our expectations. It looks great and really enhances the atmosphere of our family room. We purchased the accessory that creates the crackling noise, but it is too loud and there doesn't appear to be a way to turn down the volume; therefore, that extra purchase would not be recommended.

Love it so far!

I purchased this unit about a month ago to add some coziness to my home. I built the surround and mantel for it myself and have to say I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out. The flames look quite a lot more realistic than many of the cheaper fireplaces I considered, though I will say, the heater fan is sort of noisy. Not terrible, but definitely audible even with the TV on and sitting 20 feet away, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars (would have done 4.5/5 if it let me). I have the log set in place rather than the crystals just because I prefer the more traditional look, but both seem to be aesthetically nice.
