HURRICANE IDA LIFELINE

Bought this about a month ago, and was delivered 2 wks before Ida came ashore in Louisiana. No power, no water (well water), and a flooded house. I'm 62 yr old widow with a bad shoulder, no way I could have pulled started a generator. Works great, as we 're on day 7 of running it (had to wait for the water to clear off the patio/driveway) let it cool down between fillups, check the oil, then it starts right up again. I only wish I had gotten a larger one that could run everything but the A/C and stove. Love my generator! Thank you for masking my life easier

Solid Generator with Some Annoying Issues
on September 7, 2021

I bought this in anticipation of the public safety power shut-offs in California this summer and fall. We had a couple of them and it has worked well so far. There is a design flaw in the placement of the bolt to drain the oil. The bolt is only a couple inches off the ground so that to change the oil I had to put it up on cinderblocks in order to get a pan underneath it. I had to watch a guy on YouTube to figure that out. Additionally, the oil drainage bolt has a metal brace just underneath so you cannot easily put a funnel directly under it and you're all but guaranteed to spill oil on the ground. Bad design.
The manual also has outdated photographs in it so the instructions for hooking up the battery show a completely different configuration. Outdated photos and graphics appear pretty regularly creating unnecessary stress when trying to set it up the first time.
One additional con is that the remote start only works with gas, but not with propane. You won't learn that until you read the manual.
Other than those things, I've enjoyed the generator and it seems solidly made. If I had to do it all over again I would have bought one with more standard outlets rather than just two. I run extension cords and it is annoying see those other outlets sitting there unused and recognizing that I am not taking advantage of all the power that the generator has to offer. But that was my mistake.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent except for one small detail

Starts, runs smoothly on propane (haven't tried gas yet as I don't plan on using it. Power output is steady. Noise level is reasonable. Unit appears sturdy and well-made. Handle for pulling is comfortable.
My one complaint: The oil cap/dipstick. Location is hard to reach without getting almost flat on the ground; cap is cheap plastic and hard to thread, and already shows signs of stripping. I can tell already that's likely to be a problem. Even worse: The dipstick is essentially useless -- after screwing it in and unscrewing it, the amount of oil smeared on the stick appears to be the same no matter how high or low the oil level actually is.
Also, it would be nice if the owners manual made it clearer that the ENTIRE bottle of oil that comes with the unit should be put in the engine. I tried going by the dipstick reading and ended up with too little oil. The Low Oil Cutoff saved me until I could figure out it needed the full 0.6 liters; otherwise it could have been a disaster.
It's a shame to have to focus on a negative issue when the machine appears to be an excellent value otherwise, but it's annoying that the minor fixes (metal oil cap; separate dipstick that doesn't have to be screwed in) that could solve the problem haven't already been made.

We bought this dual fuel generator in October 2020 to support home emergency electricity needs in the event of power failure. It runs beautifully in either fuel mode and the electric start is always reliable. We are very pleased with the unit.

I appreciate the fact that this generator will operate on either gasoline or propane. I would rather carry extra propane than gasoline on RV trips.

I bought this because it advertised it had GFCI circuits and remote start, helpful in inclement weather. Other attractive features were dual fuel, so there are options in emergency settings. The noise level is low for this size generator.
