Power to spare

I just hooked up my new Westinghouse generator, replacing my 21 year old, pull start Honda that had half the power. I used to have to select which circuits to activate as to not overload the system. I can now run the entire house. I still have to use common sense to not run the electric clothes dryer while baking in the oven. The Honda started on the first pull in the warm months, but winter starting required too much pulling for my aging shoulders. Having an electric start generator is my early Christmas gift. The Westinghouse started right up on propane and gasoline, and ran smoothly. It is also less noisy that my old generator. All in all a great purchase.

Started up right after adding oil and gas. I have all electric appliances in my house so I can’t run my heater or dryer but in case of a power outage I’ll at least be able to run lights and microwave and stuff so I’m not just in the dark.

I just bought this generator. It appears to be built well and the electric start feature is very convenient. Once I have used it heavily, I will update if there are any issues.

Transfer Switch Ready?

I purchased the WGen9500DF to power my small house and shop during Davey Tree Power outages (PGE NorCal). Upon receiving the generator and setting it up, I ran it on propane for an hour. This thing is a beast! The remote works perfectly. Starting and stopping the generator from inside the house. (within line of site) I found that it was necessary to change the oil after that first hour test/break in, because there appeared to be enough metallic debris in the oil to warrant it. I found it easy to drain and refill the oil in the generator without making a mess. A little over a quart of oil is cheap insurance that our new Westinghouse generator will last a Long time. The only disappointment was that the air filter was not installed correctly at the factory. The outer portion of the two stage filter was Not fitted in the filter box correctly so the filter box cover cut into it. I called customer service for a replacement. Also "transfer switch ready" appears to mean that I have to use the Westinghouse ST switch, with extension cords to have the generator automatically start for back up power. I called tech support and have yet to hear back.

After seeing the issues Texas had last year I decided it would be best to at least be prepared. I bought this generator because it is large enough to run my house without having to worry. I am installing an on demand water heater so we will have everything we need to survive if things get bad. I believe it is money well spent!!
