I purchased this generator to use in the boatyard while working on my sailboat. I wanted dual fuel because, if you know carburetors, you know how they can go wrong on you. This allows you to utilize propane "in a pinch". There's nothing like having a backup fuel source. I have had a few complaints. 1. Fuel spill and discoloration of cover This is a materials issue. While filling it with ethanol-free fuel, I spilled some down the side of the unit. Before I realized it, the fuel had discolored the cover. This is no issue at all. I'm not trying to win a beauty contest with this thing. 2. Stopped running and set me back a couple of days. While in the yard, using the unit, it began to sputter and it eventually shut down after a few minutes. I could NOT figure out what was going on. I left the boat yard with my tail between my legs and came home. When I examined it at home, I couldn't find anything wrong but it still wouldn't start. I checked for fuel in the tank, unscrewed the bowl drain screw enough to see fuel was in the carburetor bowl, pulled the plug and checked it for spark, checked the air filter...all seemed OK. I thought I'd see if it would start on propane. When I went to use the fuel selector switch, I thought, "Maybe it got bumped in transport." I switched it to propane and back to gas, pulled the string and it sputtered to life. All seems OK now. I felt like a fool. Remember this! It might just save you a lot of headaches. My complaint is that it is not able to be "locked" into position. 3. I have to adjust the tappets! This is the biggest complaint. This unit doesn't have hydraulic lifters or rollers (like Honda). This means that you have to adjust the clearance on the valves. That's a big deal for folks who have NEVER done this type of thing before. It adds a whole new level of maintenance that really made me shake my head. I can do it because I've ridden old motorcycles for years..."OLD" being the operative term.
We had a storm knock out power for an extended period of time. This was the first time I had to use the generator. Prep and operation were easy and supplied the necessary power to save the food in our refrigerator and provide lighting until the power was restored 7 hours later. So glad that I purchased the generator. I will definitely be using it for other non-weather related applications.
