Beautiful lock, quit working

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this deadbolt about a year ago and it looks great and worked superbly once Kwikset sent me a way to reverse the mechanism for my door, which they did promptly and was easy to do. After this it worked easily and smoothly until about a month ago when it suddenly would not lock with any of the keys. My guess is because it can be keyed at home with a special tool, one has slipped and no longer fits the key. Now where is the tool and instructions....
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not so happy camper...!

The set of two keys inside the package didn't work with one of the cylinders.
Have to say it was prett easy to install. I Just uninstalled to bring it back to the store

Great deadbolt

I needed a double cylinder deadbolt to restrict my grandkids' access to the pool area. The Kwikset 985 double cylinder was the obvious choice. Plus the ability to common key the lock made it even better. Easy to install, clear instructions and well made.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Outstanding Product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A few years ago, we purchased this deadbolt setup to replace the set on our front door. The one we had, had a handle on the inside to lock/unlock. Some friends of ours, who had a similar door, had their side windows broken, the criminals reached in, unlocked the door and made off with a lot of their stuff. The next day, we bought this set. We have a spare key, hidden, in the house for evacuation purposes, but we know that they can break the side window and NOT get in.

Great idea! Not so great function.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had purchased three of these smart key deadbolts a couple of years ago. Recently and over a period of a few months each one failed. I could not rekey them or even use the key that had been working for 2 years previously. I love the idea but there must be some quality issue if all three failed. Once these issues are resolved, I would give it 5 stars!!

Put these on a couple of doors with windows and there have been no problems. Rugged, reliable, dependable. What more could you ask for?

Single key for all the doors! And re-keyable!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love these locks.... a single key for all the outside doors - front, back and side - makes it so convenient. On top of that I have bought a smartkey kwikset padlock for the gate which also opens with the same key. Convenient and minimalist. No problems for past 2 years. One lock was a bit sticky and was not opening well with the key... I rekeyed it to the same key and now it works smoothly. The satin nickel finish has stayed well.

SmartKey makes security easy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] In my parents house the key bundle can drop your pants. When I built my house I used all SmartKey deadbolts and handle sets. Each door has a deadbolt and some doors have a matching handleset. I standardized on the 985 Double Cylinder for the deadbolt.
Now the key bundle on my house is only 3 keys, by choice. And still, very secure.
