I was lucky enough to have my salon buy the dyson supersonic hair dryer specifically for my hair! What an honor and wow what a difference it made to my hair and we tried it w/o any products to my hair and right after coloring(I'm a redhead)! I was going to buy one after Christmas but I again was surprised by my wonderful family and was given one holy moly was I blown away! Every day is like going to the salon!!!
I purchased this for my wife who has very discerning taste (I know that because she married me lol).
Next to a puppy or a trip to Aruba (which I already gave her) this is the best gift I have given her - it's unique, very useful, high-quality, and makes her even more beautiful.
I thought she would force me to return it once she found out how much it cost, but in reality she came down and used some expletives in describing how much she loved it. If you read about the tech behind it (managed temp, design of handle, etc) you can appreciate it even more. This is the dryer Apple would have created if they did hair driers.. with just two minor complaints.. (these complaints would not stop me from buying it -- but rather upgrade if they fixed it) -
1. First tiny complaint is the leather case closes too tightly - it's not a simple lift of the lid.. it's a tight squeeze.
2. (more important and cant' believe the Dyson engineers missed it) - Electrically it doesn't seem to be designed to "travel" - meaning I'm not sure if I can take it with me overseas and not blow out the electronics..
It should have been designed with the traveler in mind - Worldwide sales would skyrocket.
other than that, HIGHLY recommend as a gift because its a beauty product, not just an "appliance".
I have long, thick, curly hair and drying it was a pain as it took so long (over 20 minutes) and often it was still damp underneath. Now with the Dyson I am dry and styled in 10 minutes! Because it's totally dry the style lasts too.
My only negative would be getting used to holding it without blocking the air vent.
I have very thick, coarse, wavy hair, which likes to hold onto water. So it was difficult and time consuming to dry, to say the least. I say "was" because now, with the Dyson Supersonic, I can rough dry my hair in 4 minutes flat! Then I use a round brush to finish up the styling. The time savings alone is worth the price. It has lots of other great features though, most notably for me is the light weight design, and it is less noisy than standard hair dryers. What used to be a 20 - 30 minute chunk of time for me to dry and style my hair, is now down to about 10 - 15 minutes total. My coarse hair also gets really smooth and has more movement to it. I also like the 3 heat settings and 3 fan settings-they work out great. You can tell a lot of design and engineering went into this product. I own a Dyson vacuum that has not let me down for going on 10 years! So, yes I am a Dyson fan :-)
I received this as a gift and have been thrilled. The magnetic and non heating characteristics of the styling accessories take this dryer over the top!
I got this as a present and am really pleased with it. It's lightweight compared to other dryers and Hair gets dry faster. The sound is much lower than traditional dryer too. One huge negative is how long and thick the cord is, the cord also has a transmitter on it that makes it heavy. So the weight it lacks on the dryer is represented on the chord. If they could modify that it would be the perfect hairdryer.
I'm so happy with this unique hair dryer, every heat styling tool I use at salon should be advanced with up to date technology I can't wait for more Dyson hair tools xoxo
The first time I used the dryer, I didn't see overwhelming improvement in weight, dry time, or look of my hair. However, after a couple of weeks, my hair is smoother, sleeker and shiner. The dryer is quieter, especially on the med/med setting I use it on.
Biggest critique - the power button is located where the cool button should be. I instinctively try to activate the cool by pressing the power switch.
Also, I LOVE the non-slip pad. Genius!
For reference, my hair is baby fine, VERY thick, naturally straight during dry winters and wavy during humid summers.
