Not very robust

I’ve had the hairdryer for 5 days. My toddler knocked the hairdryer off the bathroom counter (about a 3.5 foot fall) and now the body is cracked. The hairdryer doesn’t have to be a tank but it should be able to take at least a small fall.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm happy to inform you that, during development, we drop Dyson Supersonic over 1,783 times, twist the cable over 310,000 times and push the buttons more than 52,000 times. It is run in chambers simulating temperature changes from 158 degrees Fahrenheit to as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit. We test to ensure it still works when exposed to over 37g of dust and lint, as well as simulating it being stood on by a 242lb person, dropped down a flight of stairs over 100 times and shaken and twisted by machine for 62 full consecutive days. We also carry this out both using test rigs for extensive hours as well as in-home trials with end-users.

Shouldnt have waiting so long!

Amazing cut my time down to dry my hair to <20 minutes when I was typically sending 40 minutes (I have thick/long hair), I wish I had gotten this sooner! My hair is much smoother and softer than using my old hair dryer, don't wait get one today.

As I stated in the title, I have curly hair (below shoulder length, fine, low-density, 2b/c curls) so I will not be speaking of the straight hair attachments.
First glance: No doubt, the Dyson supersonic hair dryer is very sleek and stylish. It is a very good-looking dryer! The buttons are cute and fairly small, which does not take away from the design of this dryer. Love the finish and the color choices. Personally, I would have not combined the Prussian blue with the copper, would have used rose gold instead of the copper, but that is only a personal preference.
The Dyson definitely helped to reduce drying time! It is fast and efficient.
Love that there are multiple speed and heat settings! However, as a curly-girl, I prefer my heat a little lower, even lower than the lowest setting on this dryer. Speed, same! I prefer to start and finish with a lower speed, that does not blow my curl-clumps apart. I don’t think I will ever use the highest setting for either the temperature or the speed!
Pros
Weight: The dryer is not awfully heavy, so your arm won’t get tired holding it, even for a longer period. This is also due to the shortness of the head since you don’t have to have your arm extended to hold it away from your head. It has a comfortable grip and a long enough handle.
Sound: Absolutely LOVE how quiet it is! Although my kitties are not crazy about the supersonic whistling sound of it. However, if you have someone sleeping in the next room, or even in the same room, it most likely will not disturb them. It is that quiet!
Filter: Since my dryer is fairly new, I have not had to clean the filter yet, but it is an excellent option to include a washable filter. The placement of the filter/air intake is also super convenient!
Intake: If you have long hair and you ever had your hair get sucked into the air intake, you will appreciate this dryer! I had my hair ripped out and damaged by getting sucked into the air intake way too many times with other dryers. It will not happen with the Dyson. This is HUGE for me!
Cord: The length of the cord is fabulous. My outlet is on the other side of my bathroom counter and did not have to struggle to stay close since the cord is sufficiently long. The cord is on the thicker/bulkier side, so it’s not as easy to wrap up for storage as others. The "brick" people mention on the cord is there, but for me, it rests on my counter, but so far, it has not bothered me
Cons
Buttons: While I love how small and cute the buttons are, they just aren’t very user-friendly. Anatomically speaking the buttons are on the wrong side of the handle. What I mean is, if you wrap your hand around or grip the handle, the buttons will be under your palm instead of your fingers which is what most people use to press the buttons with. Us curlies, we like to pixy-diffuse, which is when you place your hair in the diffuser, then turn the dryer on, to help keep the curl clumps as they are. Because the button is on the opposite side of the handle, it is very awkward and inconvenient to achieve!
Due to the placement of the cold-shot button, you can accidentally press it with your palm while holding the dryer. The size of the buttons could also be a tad larger because let’s be honest, not everyone has tiny fingers, which I do. Even with my tiny fingers, I still found the buttons slightly difficult to use, especially the cold-shot and on-off buttons – which the placement of the buttons makes it even more awkward.
And now the airflow or speed buttons. Again, they look cute and symmetrical (perfect for the OCD part of my brain), however, I much rather prefer a multiple rocker or multiple position slide on-off button on the (correct side of the) handle for easy and convenient access during drying. With the buttons being on the back of the head, I must remove the dryer from my hair, and use both hands while looking at it to switch speeds. NOT convenient!
The temperature button is also located on the back of the head. This does not bother me, because I don’t change the temperature settings during drying as I do with the airflow.
Diffuser: I like how they thought of including a diffuser with the dryer. Unfortunately, this diffuser just doesn’t cut it. Especially, if you are used to a larger, deeper diffuser. Even though my hair is only below shoulder length, and I don’t have a ton of it, I still prefer a larger, deeper diffuser for better definition. Fortunately, there are clever people out there who find a way around just about anything. Therefore, there are a few hacks out there on how to use a deeper, larger diffuser with your Dyson hairdryer. I wish they would have asked us curlies before designing the diffuser so we wouldn’t have to rely on hacks to be happy with the results.
Overall, the dryer is fantastic, but there are things that could be better. Therefore, due to the price, if I purchased the dryer on my own, it would be going back to the store! Since it was a present, I will keep it. I do hope that in time they will redesign the dryer and make it more convenient and user-friendly. With the above-mentioned issues fixed, this could be an excellent hairdryer.

Leave hair brittle, do not recommend

Yes, this will dry your hair fast. The end product, however, will leave a ball of brittle hair on top of your head. The blow power is so powerful there is really no way to control where your hair goes. It might be the worst blowout I've ever had. Super disappointed for something that costs so much money.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer will feature intelligent heat control, which means it will monitor and control the temperature at all times. This helps prevent extreme heat damage and protects hair's natural shine. It also will feature negative ions to help prevent hair from becoming frizzy. One quick tip I would recommend, as outlined in our Dyson Supersonic support videos, will be using the dryer directly against your hair with a low speed/heat setting (to start with) using either your hand, a paddle brush or roll brush to control the movement of your hair. When the dryer is held away from your head the dryer reads the temperature of the room and not your hair, this also causes your hair to blow all around which can lead to damage and tangles. Please also note that each heat and airflow setting is designed to provide varying outcomes depending on the style you have in mind for any particular drying session.

My first use and didn’t even finish drying my hair and it shut off and would not come back on. Don’t know if it got too hot so it shut off because after a bit it did turn on but I didn’t even finish drying hair when it shut off.

This can occur if the plastic wrap is left over the inlet at the bottom of the handle, or if the machine is held in such a manner that the hand covers that portion of the machine. Fast!

I’ve been wanting one of these for a while and I’m so glad I finally got it! It dries fast and my hair seems smoother and softer to the touch as if I deep conditioned it. I have not had time to try the fly away attachment. I need to watch the video first.

Hair feels brittle

Ok I've tried this hairdryer 8 times now and each time my hair feels really dry, brittle and straw texture afterwards. I've tried all settings. Lowest seems to be best for me. The last use I held it closer to my hair which seemed to help but I can still say it feels dryer than with my old hairdryer. I have fine hair with a natural curl and if I don't try and blow dry my hair straight it would be a frizzy mess. It's almost like the heat and dry time is too fast . I'm just plain out confused as all the other reviews are positive and no one really mentions this. Despite that the hairdryer is quiet, great design and dries fast. Maybe it just doesn't work with my hair type. Looks like I will be sending it back.
