This unit is rated for up to 5000 sq ft. I bought it to use in my bedroom which is probably no more than 250 sq ft. I run it 24/7. I empty it any time it becomes half full because I live in fear of flooding on my carpet. So, I empty it 4X per day usually. I estimate it is pulling at least 2 gallons of moisture per day out of my bedroom, but it is still not enough. The lowest humidity level it reaches so far during the day as of late June is 58% which is certainly better than what the humidity level was before I began using the dehumidifier, but it is still not truly comfortable. Late, late at night it can bring the humidity level down to 54%, but again that is not as comfortable as I would wish. I expected it could at least bring the humidity level down to 45% since it is rated for 5000 sq ft.
So, my feelings are mixed. On the one hand, it is performing. It is quiet. It is large but not too large. It seems to be reasonably well made. However, I do not know how it can be rated for up to 5000 sq ft given that it is only brining the humidity down to 58% in a 250 sq ft room. and to think I almost bought the 34 pint one!
This unit is going back to the manufacturer as soon as the 150 pint unit arrives next week. I hope that one will be able to do a much better job. My advice is this would be a good unit if you live in a very well insulated home and need to dehumidify one room that is not excessively humid. Do not expect this unit can dehumidify anywhere near 5000 sq ft.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very impressed by the amount of water it takes from the air. It reduced the humidity by 10% in a 2200sf house and maintains the ideal humidity on the low fan setting. The musty/moldy smell is gone. The water pump a great feature.

I have this in the back part of my basement, allowing it to drIn in the floor drain. I left the door open to the finished part of the basement, and it reduced the humidity to acceptable level. I couldn’t be happier.
