This my second Toro electric blower, the first lasting 18 years until the electric plug studs burned off. My new model is a little heavier, but is a little more powerful in wind speed. Even though it is a higher speed, it is quieter. I like the way the plug is now separate from the blower body on a short extension cord.
Pros: quiet

I had an earlier version of this leaf vacuum. The new one has a metal impeller - great for acorns, I hope. The big tube now has a click together fastener. The older model just had the 2 pieces shove together. They tended to come apart. The new one has a variable speed power control. This is good in places where there is gravel, for example, or new grass seedlings. Sometimes less is more.
My first toro lasted 10 years. My first issue was excessive tension at the electrical plug, the second ,the variable speed control knob fell off and the last was the motor became very noisey.I used it a lot for blowing grass/leaves from my driveway and eavestroughs and sucking up leaves in the fall.
Pros: the new design where the power cord connects.
Cons: none yet

Broke the first time but I like it

Bought the Ultra Blower/Vacuum Model No. 51619 two weeks ago and finally used it yesterday. Finished most of the leaves before it stopped working and I found the bolt that holds the impeller on was missing. So I came to this site to try and find a repair part. Otherwise it worked okay with a jam now and then from limb that was too large.
Pros: works like i needed it too mulching.
Cons: it broke the first time i used it.

The quality of the bag, specifically the zipper, is the problem

I purchased the unit this past Fall and it functioned satisfactorily but the collection bag did not even last out the season before the zipper began to separate from the bag and the zipper itself began to jam and pull apart.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Easy to use features and changes from blower to vacuum in about a minute. Lightweight, but powerful. Received at Christmas and have only used it a couple of times, but so far I am impressed with the product. If it holds up over time, rating would change to a 5 overall.
Pros: easy to empty mulch bag

My experience with this model blower

I have had three of this model blower over about 8 years. Each one has failed, somewhere within the housing. The latest, purchased late 2014, made it about 14 mos. before coming apart inside. Since it's under warranty, I didn't open the housing and inspect it, but it sounds like it's chewing itself up, as if a shaft or something gave way. It has about 20 hours of runtime, in short intervals and at various speeds. They all have had good treatment, full amperage provided, and so forth. I am reluctant to recommend this model based upon my experience, but do so based upon the other reviews: I may have just had a lemon with two of the three I had.
Pros: blower performance, toro's reputation
Cons: longevity and dependability, primary cord length
I would recommend this to a friend!

Your machine holds a two-year warranty and we would be happy to replace the machine at no charge to you. How are your machines used? If the blowers are used for heavy commercial use, you may see a failure sooner than you have expected. This machine is designed for standard homeowner and is not intended for a commercial application.

Very good for leaves in barked areas

The main unit is solid. In blower mode the unit is well balanced - just aim and walk along to herd the leaves into a general pile. The adjustable speed makes the blower and vacuum ideal for getting leaves out of rock covered and bark covered areas without rearranging or sucking up your landscaping (don't put the vacuum end on the ground and drag it, just hover above the leaves). Only downside I've found so far is the bag attachment for the vacuum. If there were an accordion style connector about a foot long that went into the bag at least half the width of the top of the bag it would allow greater movement of the vacuum unit without impeding the flow of air to the bag. If you don't keep the vacuum and the bag lined up fairly straight, you will create an over pressure that pushes little pieces of shredded leaves out along the connection between the bag and the hard plastic adapter.
