Do not buy

Used for less than one hour and the fan self destructed. Making the working parts of a high capacity machine of cheap plastic is inexcusable.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Old design was good, This is not

After buying three of these units less than a year ago all of them have the same issue of constantly clogging near the entrance to the chute for the bag. The leaves are mulched when entering the cavity and just before entering the chute that attaches to the bag, they accumulate then finally clog up the opening. This never occurred in previous design. Either the molded cavity has been changed or the impeller. We can't go 10 feet without it clogging. As an engineer this is a design issue that should have been discovered during design qualification. Either engineering or Quality isn’t doing their job. I had some years ago that never clogged. I'll return them to the box store and let them know to tell Toro to fix their design.

Thank you for review, Bill. Our recommendation is to ensure the leaves are dry and allow the impeller to mulch the leaves without overloading the chamber. Sometimes, we force the vacuum tube into a pile of debris or force feed into the tube and this may clog and damage the impeller. We suggest you visit Toro.com/manuals to get the operator's manual, which will help you to know the do's and don'ts while operating the product. We also recommend you visit Toro.com/warranty to find the warranty coverage for your machine. Overall this machine receives 4.3 out of 5 stars from over 1200 customers. So we encourage folks who do have any issues to utilize the warranty protection and you should have a 4.3 plus experience!

Easy to use, however don't expect long durability

I have purchased 2 of the Toro Ultra Plus, in part because I had a long experience with other Toro machines that were well designed and have had a long usable life. I got 2 seasons (summer/fall) use from the 1st one, although had to purchase a 2nd bag since the original developed a hole in the bottom (needs more durable fabric bottom). The past spring I purchased a 2nd due to the variable speed switch initially being unreliable and within a short time failing; thus necessitating a replacement purchase. The 2nd got heavy duty use in my small yard this summer and fall, up to yesterday at which time it stopped working for no discernable reason. I'll reluctantly recommend this product because of its ease of use for both blowing and vacuuming leaves... given its price. I'd much rather pay a bit more for a more mechanically reliable product... with useful life of what I've known for Toro products in prior years. While well designed for small jobs, I'm frustrated of having to recycle this piece of equipment since it costs more to have it possibly fixed by a qualified mechanical shop.

Needs design improvements

I have had this blower/vacuum for two days now and have used for 4 hours each day. If you are a short person this unit will break your back when used as a vacuum. It must be held at a certain height to be effective. Making the intake adjustable for length would sure help. The method of attaching the collection bag to the adapter leaks dust all over the user. The strap on the collection bag sure seems like an after thought, does not stay straight in the rings and buckles, needs a shoulder pad. The power cord retention maze does not secure the cord for long. slips out often.
Pros: has decent power, decent quality
Cons: difficult to switch modes, poor bag retention

1st purchased April 2015 - rheostat switch went bad Jan 2019, called for replacement parts because could not shut it off. The motor still worked fine. They do not make replacement parts for the rheostat switch.
Purchased a new one Jan 26, 2019. March 1st motor started making funny noises. Returned and got a new one free of charge.

I enjoyed the easy and efficient use of the Ultra Blower Vac. I purchased Model No. 51619 S/N 319190190.Ultra Blower Vacuum, but the following item was not in the box after I opened it and laid out all the items. What was missing, I think> was the Power Nozzle. I have the Concentrator Nozzle but I am unable to incorporate into the Blower tube, I slid the Concentrator Nozzle into the Blower Tube but the Concentrator Nozzle only goes so far and will not extend out of the front of the Blower Tube.
1. Will I receive a new Power Nozzle from you or the company?
2. Would you please send me instructions on how to install the Concentrator Nozzle into the Blower tube.

Mowing the lawn and weed eating afterwards was exhausting and I'd still had to sweep the curb and driveway. Thanks to my Toro it cut the sweeping by at least 70%. Should've bought one way sooner. I highly recommend the Toro (51619).

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my second Ultra leaf blower. The switch on the first one stopped working. I could not turn it off. Had to keep plugging and unplugging the cord to turn on and off. Too much work. I only used it a few months a year. Also, the same thing happened to a friend who had same model. Purchased another one of the same model. It is powerful and I like the 3 speeds. Hope that this one last longer that the first one.
