Good vacuum, defective bag!
on November 20, 2021
Posted by: RUOLD
Owned the original vac and the plastic impeller wore down. I was e excited to get the new version with the metal impeller but, as with everyone else, the bag is defective. Toro should give anyone affected by this one free replacement AND improve the quality of the replacement bags. Toro, why are you ignoring this problem and adding waste/costs to your customers?
Without the bag working, the equipment is only 1/2 useable.

Toro leaf vacuum

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For me the leaf vac is a little heavy, but I am able to handle it. The tube is too long and I had to have several inches cut off. The performance is fine. It is one of the better leaf vacs on the market. Most are too heavy and awkward to handle. Overall, I would rate this vac top of the line.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worst leaf vac. I have ever used

Had this for 3 years now. The only good thing it has going for it, is it has a metal impeller. Everything else on it is just a complete poor design. The way the Vac. pipe tapers down, and then flares open again just leads the unit to clogging up constantly if you are in any amount of leaves. The unit isn't even powerful enough to suck up pinecones. As well, the egronomics of the un it are horrible if you are less than 6'4" tall. you will find you are constantly carrying the unit , but it will give your biceps a good workout ! As well, in three years, we have replaced the bag every year, due to it constantly ripping right where it connects tov the unit. It starts ripping by the 3rd bag full, and then I end up trying to patch and re-enforce it with duct tape for the rest of the year!! It is also very loud compared to many others out there, and the design of it tends to put the motor unit "in your face" unlike other models where its down at your side. As well, this unit requires 2 hands to operate in Vac mode, unlike most that are one handed operation like this is in blower mode.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are disappointed to hear that the Ultra Blower Vac has not met your expectations and appreciate you providing us with your feedback about your experience and the product design. While the air stream clears debris, sticks and large, heavy leaves, please keep in mind that this model is intended to vacuum only dry leaves and soft items. Hard items such as sticks, rocks, acorns, and pine cones will damage the impeller. For additional information and other helpful tips, please visit Toro.com/parts for the model specific operator manual.

The bag is the weak link!

Works great, however the bag is the weakest part. I the strap falls off your shoulder, the bag rubs the ground and a hole will be made in the bag and its all down hill from there. Air leaks from the connection from the bag to the vacuum. They need to make a better quality bag.
Pros: good suction
Cons: poor bag design quality

This is my third unit. First one the plastic clip broke so that the unit wouldn't turn on. The last one the switch went out going on and off while operating. When they work, I love it. Big maple leaves suck up with no problem. Just wish quality was a little better.

Needs Improvement

Had used another brand for about twelve years until it just blew up one day. Switched over to Toro and am on my third one in five years. In each case the switch to control the speed quit working. The first one was a two speed and after awhile it quit working on the hi speed. Bought the adjustable speed one and after awhile it would not shut off. Called a Toro dealer and was told there was no replacement switch I could buy.
I again bought the adjustable speed one because it was on sale. So far so good but if the switch goes again I am going back to the other brand I used forever.
The blower works great and I really like it but I think it should last more than a couple of years. I have a small city lot and really do not have to use it a lot so it is not abused. Toro needs to address their switch issue in my case.
Pros: very easy to use
Cons: quality is lacking.

Always good to hear feedback from our customers! Internal blower components are not sold as we are concerned about the safety of our customers and the electrical hazards that may result during the repair process. Also, replacement of single parts (i.e. brushes, springs, switches) tend to be short-termed due to existing wear on the armature. From a safety standpoint, internal electrical repairs must be “hi-pot” tested to make sure they are safe. This test is not something readily available to all customers; therefore, we do not sell internal electrical parts. If you have any issues inside of the warranty period, we strongly encourage you to apply our full Two-Year Toro Manufacturer’s warranty for our Blower/Vacuum products should there be any defect identified and we will replace the blower for you at no charge. If for any reason you need further help, contact our customer care team at 888-384-9939. Thank you!

The motor stopped working while performing a basic function.

The motor totally stopped as I was using it as a blower to clear out the leaves from the eavestroughs. It was only the second time the blower/vacuum had been used.
The motor displayed the slowing down as it weakened and then totally stopped. Reconnecting the electrical cord had absolutely no effect and it could not be opened up for any inspection or maintenance.
Pros: none
Cons: poor reliability
Response from Toro.comBy ToroJanuary 14, 2020
To extend your motor life, please use a 100ft extension cord that has a 14 gauge or lower. If a higher gauge (less heavy-duty) cord is used the motor begins to “over-work” and may over-heat and/or lose power. Your unit has a two-year warranty for repairs/replacements. You can contact us at 1-888-384-9939 for help with the warranty process. Thank you.
