After you follow the manual’s instructions to display the clock, set AM/PM, the hour, and the minutes, you will then confirm the clock settings by pushing the Brew/Select knob to select. After these settings are set, the outer ring will illuminate to confirm. If the outer ring is illuminated and your coffee maker is maintaining your selected clock settings, this is within the normal operation and design of the unit. However, your experience using your coffee maker plays a key role in our commitment to improvement and we have shared your feedback with our design team for review. While we are very glad that you are enjoying the stylish appearance, convenient Smart Brewing feature, and professional taste that your coffee maker provides, we are sorry to hear of the difficulty you’ve experienced with cleaning up the coffee grounds and would love to help you with this. You may find coffee grounds have overflowed the brew basket, splashed up on the showerhead lid, or gone into the coffee in the carafe. While this is normal, especially when the using the maximum level of coffee grounds, what you want to avoid is having the coffee grounds overflow into your coffee in the carafe. Overflow can be impacted by the Brew Basket Filter, Coffee Grind, and Amount Used and here are some helpful tips for avoiding overflow.

Your coffee maker comes with a gold mesh basket filter in the brew basket insert. You can use a No. 4 paper filter instead but using both the mesh filter and a paper filter will cause grounds to overflow into the basket insert or could splash coffee grinds and residue on the underside of the lid. We recommend using a medium-grind coffee because a finer grind is more likely to lead to an overflow. We encourage you to continue using the scoop that is provided and using a flush level of grounds, as heaping scoops can lead to too much coffee grounds and can cause overflows. You can also find helpful guidance on preparing for brewing on pages 8-10 of your Use and Care Manual.
