I’m amazed by all the features and options this coffee maker provides! Between the multiple grind and temperature options, connectivity with my phone for ease of brewing!
I wanted to believe this was going to be a good coffee maker. I have been purchasing specialty coffee machines for years now and have noticed that some of the best drip coffee makers haven’t caught up with the pleasing design aesthetics. Enter this specific machine, which is beautiful in viewable aesthetic, but trust me when I say the quality design ends with the appearance. Having a coffee machine that consistently overflows grounds out of the machine and into the carafe is a huge flaw. Having a response from GE that you should simply change your coffee settings is a complete copout. If you are going to market an SCA certified coffee maker on par with customizable settings and price of that of a Breville Precision Brewer or Technivorm Moccamaster and then respond to an overflowing brew basket with a response of “grind your coffee coarser”, then you are completely negating any possibility of quality comparison. I’ve used a Bonavita with the exact same grind settings for the last 5 years and never once had an overflown grounds basket. GE figured out a dirty secret that unfortunately most consumers will conflate “pretty” design with quality and that has allowed them to reskin their existing appliances with a few cool colors and accent metals and then charge 40% more without actually giving you the value return on your investment. I fell for it with this purchase. For the money, I will return this machine and get one of the, albeit less pretty, but better built machines at the price point. I’m assuming the recent price drop on this machine is a quiet acknowledgment of lacking quality in the market.

Hi there - Thanks so much for taking the time to write a detailed review. We're disappointed to hear that you aren't pleased with the quality of your coffee maker and that it constantly overflows. We can totally understand how much of a headache this must be and we sincerely apologize for your inconvenience.
If the carafe is not firmly in place and pressing the drip stop on the bottom of the basket, then the brewing basket could potentially overflow.
As we always work to improve our products, we'll be sure to share your feedback with our product design and engineering teams. We're always happy to help if any questions or concerns come up. -Mikayla@Cafe
This Cafe coffee maker is great! Easily the best coffee maker I have ever owned. The Gold brew setting makes a near-perfect cup of coffee. The ability to adjust the temperature with other brew settings is also a plus and provides a more dynamic experience.
The ability to schedule and manage brew settings via the SmartHQ mobile app is nice. It would be cool if there were some basic analytics in the app as well though, such as how many cups I have consumed in a day or common times I brew coffee (I'm not just a morning drinker).
I wish the Cafe series provided integration with Apple's HomeKit and Siri. As an Apple household, it's a bummer to have any connected device only work with Alexa or maybe Google Home. The lack of HomeKit + Siri integration caused me to think about this purchase for some extra weeks.
I do find that although the Cafe supports up to 10 cups of coffee, using more than 6 leveled scoops will leave coffee grinds on the plastic showerhead cover in the compartment. It's easily removable for cleaning, but still a hassle.
I would also love to see a version of the Cafe with a built-in heated milk frother, as I have noted on similar devices. This would allow for making craft coffee drinks more easily.
None of these drawbacks is enough to get me to give up my Cafe coffee machine.
Cant figure out how to not ruin each pot of 10 cup

Looks great but every time I try to make a pot of 10 cups the grinds overflow and it's a royal mess. Requires a toothbrush to clean out. I am not happy!

Hello- Thank you for your purchase. We are sorry to hear you are having this issue and are happy to help! There is always going to be some level of coffee ground and oils that splash back onto the showerhead lid when the maximum level of coffee grounds is used. What you want to avoid is having the coffee grounds overflow into your coffee in the carafe. Here are a few causes for overflow, and some ways to avoid it. ~ Your coffee maker comes with a gold mesh basket filter in the brew basket insert. You can use a No. 4 paper filter instead, but using both the mesh filter and a paper filter will cause grounds to overflow into the basket insert or could splash coffee grinds and residue on the underside of the lid.
~ We recommend using a medium-grind coffee, when possible. A finer grind is more likely to lead to an overflow of coffee grounds. We also recommend using the scoop that comes with your coffee maker, and use a flush level of grounds. Heaping scoops can lead to too much coffee grounds and can potentially cause overflows. We hope this helps! If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are always happy to help! Joyce@Cafe
