Great product, great customer service

I use headlamps for a wide variety of tasks in and around my home. Some of the tasks I use this model for are home improvement projects, walking the dog at night, rummaging around the attic, or any number of things that I need light and two free hands for.
I purchased this light a few years ago, and it had gotten regular use. However, after a demolition of a shed and a wash of the light and strap afterwards, the red LEDs would not fully switch off, causing the batteries to slowly drain. Bummer.
Thinking I was out of my headlight, I realized Coast has a lifetime warrantee on this product. I simply emailed their customer service, and in a couple hours, a real person emailed me back. All I did is upload a couple photos of the defective headlamp, and Coast sent me a brand new light. I only had to pay for shipping. Keep in mind I was not able to produce a receipt. Coast also said I can keep the old light without the need to send it back to them. Based on the great quality of this light and amazing customer service, I plan to continue to use Coast products. Thank you very much.

Great Headlamp

The FL85R is a great headlamp. Comfortable to wear,not too heavy. Has nice adjustments to direct light right where you need it. I never owned a headlamp before and this is my first purchase. I wanted a high lumen output while staying as small and compact as possible. I found this to be one of the better options, and it performs well. I wish it was brighter,but like I said,the compact size,comfort for the amount of Lumens you get was worth it. I would definitely recommend, and would buy another. A little pricey, but hopefully the durability/longevity will make up for that.

Had an issue with one of the headlamps not wanting to click on. Called company, went through a couple steps and I had a new replacement in about a week. That speaks volumes about a company. Thanks

Poor light

Bought at Costco switch stopped working on second press of the button light would come on by itself and not shut off or would shut off then come back on a minute later. Use coast products a lot never had a problem before
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent brightness and lens. Battery life of the rechargeable left something lacking. After ~30 minutes of usage the light is visibly more dim and hard to use given the light temperature of the lamp.

I'd give the FL85 a 5 star rating if I hadn't gone though 2 of them in a year (the most recent was just purchased 4 months before it stopped working). I don't know if it is a design flaw in the on/off switch or what the deal is but I am so disappointed ... I LOVED this headlamp but as someone who walks an average of 3 hours in the dark every day need one I can rely on. I am researching to see if any of the other models last longer because aside from the short lifecycle it really was perfect.

I love it - super bright - rechargable battery system is over the top. My only complaint is that the strap design allows the unit to pop loose if the light fouls on something in a tight place. Easy enough to live with! Other than that 10 stars
