[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had the extendable hedge trimmer for about a month now, and it’s one of those tools that you didn’t know you needed, but after you have it, you’re not sure how you did without it. I have several tall bushes, along with an arbor that needs trimming. I’ve previously had to drag out the ladder to use the regular hedge trimmer. This make it so much easier. The head of the trimmer is adjustable to multiples angles, but is best weighted at a 90 angle. It has a triple safety system, you pull back a switch on the top to release a lock on the trigger. Then there is a long switch running the length of the extension pole that you have to make contact with for it to start. All of the switches are in places you would naturally hold, so no complains there. The unit seems very heavy duty, the blades are very thick, and the motor never bogged down, even on the ticker branches. That being said, it does have some weight to it. I’ve used it several times now, and I never get more than 1 bar down on the battery. The battery meter, and button is difficult to get to when the battery is installed. You’ll have to take off your gloves. One neat features is that the head actually flips back the opposite way so you can do the underside of the hedges too. I also appreciate the keyhole mount on the back of the unit to hang it up in the garage.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the telescoping hedge trimmer while I was out of town on business; when I finally returned, the weather was so bad I had not had a chance to test it until this past weekend.
Caveat: this review is colored by the fact that I own two somewhat related tools already: Greenworks' 80V Li-Ion cordless hedge trimmer (model 2200702) and Greenworks' 40V Li-Ion cordless 8' pole saw (model 20672).
I tested the trimmer by using it to trim two different types of hedge - the boxwood hedge on my home's property line between my house and my neighbors to the West, and on a mixed thicket/hedge line of cyprus evergreens, vines and salmonberry bushes on the dividing line between my office's back-garden lawn and the wetland to the North.
In the premier test, the boxwood hedge had not been trimmed in six months and the last few weeks saw heavy rainfall here. Thus, the new growth was quite thick; although not as sap-engorged as it is in the Spring. That is the reason I usually trim at this time of year, even though the weather is not great.
Initially, I noticed the control setup is slightly unusual. With the addition of the vertical pole, Greenworks has added a depressable bar that acts as a second interlock (in addition to the one on the trigger/handle guard). I assume this is so that if the trimmer's pole slips from one's hand, it will shut off rather than falling and cutting indiscriminately as it falls. My aforementioned pole saw does not have a similar control, so it took some getting used to - there's only a certain area one may place one's hand when supporting the trimmer, and from pole saw use I had become accustomed to placing my hand in different spots on the pole to provide support for different cutting heights.
Eventually, I got comfortable with the interlock arrangement and set about cutting the boxwood.
The first thing I noticed while using the trimmer was, there's a big difference in cutting power (motor torque?) between 40V and 80V. The 80V trimmer cuts through the boxwood like butter. Even though it is a much heavier tool, and requires a ladder, I can usually complete the trim in less than fifteen minutes and it never jams. This device jammed about three minutes into cutting. After clearing the jam, I continued but at a slower pace.
The second thing I noticed was, the 43W-h battery supplied with the device is too small. Unless someone only ever needs to trim a three-foot-long hedgerow, it will never be enough. I used up the full battery supplied within about five minutes. Fortunately for me, I also use Greenworks' power tools - the 86W-h battery from my impact driver fit just fine and enabled me to finish cutting the boxwood. In total, it took me a little over one half-hour (about thirty eight minutes) and it only jammed twice during that time.
Overall impression for the first session: took some getting used-to, but basically quite functional. Having the pole was very nice and allowed me to cut without a ladder. If one had a lighter hedge than boxwood (say, for example, cyprus evergreen or something else with thin stems) it might go very quickly, but I still recommend a more capacious battery.
Today, I used it to trim the thicket hedge that grows by my office. This is a mixed hedge. I was nervous because of the previous experience with jams, so I took it slowly.
Forty-five minutes and two 86W-h batteries later, I finally finished. No jams, but there were sections I avoided because the stems were too stout and would definitely have stopped the trimmer. I went back with my 80V trimmer and my trusty Little Giant ladder and finished those sections (about five minutes).
So, in retrospect - I really like the pole aspect - despite taking some time to get familiar with, it is highly useful and I like it a lot. As with Greenworks products I have previously owned and used, the sturdiness of the design (the adjustable clamps on the extension were VERY well designed and stout), the fit-and-finish and general ergonomics of the device are all very good.
For a weekend warrior with a light hedge, it is perfect. For anything heavier, I'd definitely recommend its 80V cousin.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this trimmer and was amazed at how light weight it was! I assembled it in under three minutes after I had fully charged the battery. The owners manual is concise and helpful if you have questions. I used it trim a mock orange shrub that was getting out of control. The trimmer was very easy to use while straight and with the push of the conveniently place button converted 90 degrees to reach up high without having to use a ladder. It also can be stretched out an extra 6 or so inches for extra reach. The trimmer has plenty of power with the 24 volt battery! This a very good product that I would recommend to anyone who did not want to drag an electric cord around to trim shrubbery.

Great Trimmer!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After fully charging the 24V battery I started trimming our 15 foot high cedar hedge for the first time this season. Fully extending the trimmer allowed me to trim up to 12 feet high while standing safely on the ground. The trimmer breezed through the cedar hedge and it was able to cut branches up to 1/2" diameter with ease. After 25 minutes of run time the battery was ready for another charge. It was quickly at 100 % of charge within 45 minutes. The Greenworks pole trimmer made it easy to trim an unruly hedge.

Great hedge trimmer with surprising power.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] At first I was worried about the power of this 24 volt hedge trimmer, as I am used to using the 40V tools from Greenworks, however I was pleasantly surprised. The overall power of this trimmer doesn't feel like a battery tool. This hedge trimmer cut through some of the thicker hedge branches I was trimming, up to about 1/2" thick. I noticed that trimming went easier if I swept across large branches quickly, as opposed to just pressing hard on the side of a branch to cut. I used the hedge trimmer to trim several podocarpus hedges I have. The extension pole made reaching the tops of them easy. Cuts are pretty clean, with very little "chewed" marks on leaves.
The motor that drives the trimmer is housed in the head of the unit, not the base near the battery. This actually makes the head of the tool a bit heaver, but gets balanced out when the battery is connected in the back. This made reaching with the tool easier.
My only drawback after using this awhile, is that the quick clamps that tighten the length adjustment seem to loosen over continued use. I find myself having to tighten these clamps with a screwdriver before opening and closing them to make them tight. Not a big issue, but an small annoyance, nonetheless.
I the tool has 3 'buttons' that trigger the unit. There is a long button on the pole, a button on the top, and a trigger. All 3 have to be engaged for the trimmer to operate. I assume this is for safety, since if you let go of the pole, the trimmer doesn't come in contact with you while running.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The hedge trimmer is easy to use and works great. The battery charges quick and stays charged long enough to get the job done and more. It works quickly and quietly. Has a great reach. I’m pretty short and was able to trim a rather tall and over grown bush back to a manageable size in less than 5 minutes. It was actually fun to use. I’m going to have to find more hedges to trim.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my review of the Greenworks 24V Lithium-Ion Pole Hedge Trimmer #22242. This is a cordless trimmer that comes with the tool, 2Ah 24V battery and charger. The battery pack is compatible with other Greenworks 24V Lithium-Ion based tools.
Having cut through many extension cords using my corded hedge trimmer, and dealt with the continuous maintenance associated with 2-cycle gasoline engines, a powerful battery-based hedge trimmer was very appealing. Unpacking the Greenworks trimmer revealed a well-made product, thoughtfully designed for safety, comfort and performance.
Assembly entails attaching the main handle assembly to the trimmer head assembly. There are clearly marked arrows to ensure easy assembly. Once the two halves are together, simply fasten the trimmer head cam lock. While no tools are required for the assembly, I would like to note that the cam locks are adjustable for tighter fit, if desired, using a standard #2 Phillips screwdriver. No oil or any other additive is required. I charged the 24V battery pack for an hour before going back and seeing that it was fully charged by the charger’s LED indicators. The battery pack slides into the tool and securely clicks into position. Fully assembled, the hedge trimmer weighs about 10 pounds, but it is well-balanced and easy to handle.
The task of the day was an overgrown bridal wreath bush, with some parts about 7 feet tall and nearly the same width. The trimmer’s lock-out button and dual-trigger system combine safety with functionality. After a quick review of the manual, I found myself comfortable with activating the tool, while still assured that it could not be easily activated by an unwitting child or a careless grasp. The Greenworks pole hedge trimmer is super sharp, and sliced through the bridal wreath with ease. A few of the thickest branches, ½” in diameter, gave the tool momentary resistance, but the blade quickly won the battle and kept on going.
This tool was designed with the user in mind. The pole can be extended up to an additional 8-½” in length for comfort, or to help reach greater heights or depth in the task you are working on. To accomplish this, loosen the handle cam lock, adjust the handle shaft to the desired length, and then re-fasten the cam lock. Additionally, the head and blade can be pivoted into 7 offset positions, allowing for greater flexibility. To change the pivot, simply squeeze the large button and adjust the head, allowing it to click into the position you desire.
I ran the tool continuously for 38 minutes on the bridal wreath, and the power stayed strong and consistent on the single charge of the 24V battery. With the bridal wreath job complete, I turned my attention to a patch of overgrown privet, and kept on cutting for about another 7 minutes before detecting the battery beginning to wane. The battery required an equal 45 minutes on the charger to return to a full state of charge, well within a reasonable time period.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I spent some quality time with my 20 inch pole hedge trimmer. I just finished trimming 7 tall evergreen trees. In the past I have had to get the ladder out and move it around a lot to trim trees. My trees are between 8 and 10 foot tall. This trimmer handled this task in stride.
I had read that the battery would last around 40 minutes. I used the trimmer for at least 45 minutes and it still showed some charge left.
I great unit I would recommend for anyone with those tall bushes.
