I bought this machine as a replacement for my machine which no longer functioned. I am confident the replacement printer will continually perform successfully as needed.
I have printed photos, pdf books, and a bunch of artwork, I am 5/5 happy with this printer and the quality of the prints. The wi-fi feature is very useful as well, something I did not realize I would use so much.
I don't use this often, but when I do I'm very happy. Color is great and the copying function just fantastic. Love the size, it fits where I want it to and is actually smaller than my last Officejet printer.
Bought printer this few weeks ago and found it to be adequate for my needs. I use it mainly as a desktop printer for printing from PC, copying documents and scanning documents. Some comparisons are to my HP 4600 series that quit feeding paper and this is my replacement unit. Pros: prints quickly when it starts to print. Has a much better scan menu on the PC with fewer steps to accomplish the task. Larger paper holder that is enclosed and does not require a lot of attention. Cons, very noisy. Sometimes does not immediately print after releasing from the PC, this is annoying as it does not give a readily visible status. The automated ink replacement does not fit with my needs and appears to be more expensive than replacing as needed. HP should make this feature more affordable for the average user to help defer the cost of ink and gain acceptance. Things I am not aware at this time but need to see over time: Ink usage, I like the multi cartridge but i have no idea on how long the ink will last, the problem with all HP printers is the replacement cost of ink. Have not used the WiFi this will be a new adventure as I am not clear on how this works. Otherwise the printer works as designed, nothing special compared to other printers in the same class.
I downgraded from an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Series All-in-One Printer, as the machine suddenly stopped working after many years of use. This HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is portable, and does all the work of the 8600 Series, except for the Scanning to PDF feature, which this HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 does not support. You can only scan to picture mode (JPEG, PNG, TIFF). It's time consuming to scan documents individually to photo images, and then convert them to PDF. So I miss that feature from the 8600 Series, which just allows you to scan multiple pages during one scanning process to PDF.
If you are like me, and want that feature included in your scan to file or desk top, then this printer might not be for you.
Printer arrive before the intended arrival date, some damages to box but no noticeable damages to the printer.
PROs: Functionality: Scans very well, prints fast, easily put together Connection: Connecting to Wi-Fi was exceptionally easy Appearance: Very compact, lighter weight compared to my 8610 that had a cartridge failure and takes up less space.
CONs: The printing is rather loud and the print quality depends on desired printing (standard B/W, color documents, photos (not the best). In order to scan as PDF, you need to download the application otherwise it defaults to TIF/JPG/etc. The feed tray needs improvement, unable to secure various paper types in order to ensure a proper feed. Touchpad can be gimmicky if you have larger hands (requires a delicate touch) and the provided cartridges (exploded in box my wife's hands were yellow for three days.).
Otherwise, it meets the needed intent for an affordable All-in-One Printer however there is room for improvement.
