To the extent I’ve used it, this printer does a great job printing documents as well as photos. Only the test of time will show its durability. I would highly recommmend this printer. My use is strictly in home.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Device OK, print cartridges suck
on April 13, 2017

I purchased this printer to replace an older printer of a different type that was no longer functioning effectively. I had used HP printers before and thought this one looked good. The particular feature I liked was the Wifi, allowing the printer to be used by multiple devices. This part is OK, but I was not so sure about the HP "instant ink" program; however, I went ahead with the free trial, which recently expired. It seemed to work OK at first, but then the large black ink cartridges provided in the program began to clog and stop printing in the middle of jobs. This has happened several times, and it requires laborious printhead cleaning in order to get the printer to work, which creates unacceptable delays when there are deadlines for print jobs. I would not buy this printer again, and I would not recommend the HP instant ink cartridges.
Purchased a new 6978 in September 2016. Printer failed in January 2018. Would not print using black ink cartridge. Followed all recommended solutions to no avail. Purchased replacement printer.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Ink too expensive

This printer does a great job. However I have bought more than 3 printers in ink!! HP needs to address this issue.
Using HP desktop running Windows 10, for some strange reason only prints double sided automatically when connected as Wi-Fi. If you setup and connect using USB cable, double sided feature is lost!
Instant Ink & Clogged Printheads - Bad Combination

Verified Purchase:Yes
I originally signed up for instant ink @ the 50 page level. I have had to clean and align printheads twice and I haven't had this printer for a month yet. As a result, I have now been forced to change my Instant Ink subscription to the 100 page level. Additionally, the paper flips incorrectly when duplexing 2-up page printing (circumventable by choosing the wrong type of page flip). Needless to say, I am not happy and may not buy hp printers again if they cannot get simple features correct.
My current 6978 printer is a replacement of a 6978 printer that only printed 3 pages before it stopped printing in black. That printer was, itself, a replacement of a 6830 that had a print head problem and it had been a replacement of a previous 6830 with , you guessed it, a print head problem! It seems HP has a print head problem! I like the features and I actually chose to purchase the current 6978 because of the cost of ink with the other printers with similar features. I hope HP gets a handle on the printhead problem.

Takes 15 minutes to print
on June 18, 2017

Every time I go to print something, this printer goes into a 15 minute self cleaning process. Then when the sheet actually prints, it comes out with terrible quality and smudged ink. It did not do this when I first got it. It started after about the fifth time I went to print something. No settings have been changed since I've hooked this printer up.
