My current 6978 printer is a replacement of a 6978 printer that only printed 3 pages before it stopped printing in black. That printer was, itself, a replacement of a 6830 that had a print head problem and it had been a replacement of a previous 6830 with , you guessed it, a print head problem! It seems HP has a print head problem! I like the features and I actually chose to purchase the current 6978 because of the cost of ink with the other printers with similar features. I hope HP gets a handle on the printhead problem.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi, sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue with the printhead on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer. Please follow the guidelines in this document to fix this issue: http://hp.care/2o4ntUp HP printers generally have a 1-year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link: http://bit.ly/2mP3Xrb You can also contact HP Support in case you need further assistance: http://hp.care/2nbNQFi
I bought the product primarily for its ability to print on both sides of the page (duplex printing). However, even after meticulously following the installation instructions, there was no option to duplex print (I installed on a Mac). I had to dig deep on help sites to find out how to re-install with a workaround; not a very elegant solution. Now I can't find an option to scan a double-sided document into a single document - it scans each page as a separate document. So no, I would not recommend for Mac users if this is typical (from what I've found on the internet, it is). Disappointing, as I like the printer otherwise.
There is sometimes a delay of several minutes before printing, not sure why since sometimes it is immediate. Also, it seems to have bells???? makes sound other than printing.
