Disappointed in this printer

I have bought several HP printers over time and they all have been great except this one. Bought this 6978 a few months ago and very disappointed in it. Quite a few times when going to print something, it decides that it wants to do initializing or a maintenance phase that takes a while. Very frustrating when you're in a hurry. Then it keeps asking if I changed the size of the paper before it will print when I haven't touched it. Not as printer friendly as my previous HP printers I've had.
Pros: Affordable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm sorry that the printer isn't as friendly as those you had in the past. I hope that after time you'll learn to like it better.
It is doubtful you can turn off the messages about paper size, but it wouldn't hurt to check the user guide about that. I know you can adjust the power-saving settings like sleep mode and auto-off, so maybe...

I purchased the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All in One Printer . I set it up, turned it on and it FAILED OUT OF THE BOX! There is NO COLOR CONTROL. Reds are printed Yellow, full color pages come out GREEN!. There is NO link to correct software or color management problems. BAD EXPERIENCE! No return information provided.
Cons: More RAM, Smoother Mouse Pad
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this to replace same model (that I damaged). The first one worked SOOOO good that when I damaged it while trying to clean it, I just call HP and bought the same model. This printer combined with the Instant Ink program just can't be beat !!!!

Had to replace my old HP6500 printer and after some shopping around decided on the 6978 based on several criteria. I needed an all-in-one that fit within the confined area of a slide out shelf in a cabinet. It wouldn't matter how good the printer was if it didn't fit where I needed it to. Second, my preference was for a printer with 4 separate ink cartridges. I just believe I get better economy and print quality with that configuration. Installation was a breeze. Installed the software and followed the prompts. Fast and easy. I love the fact that two sided printing AND scanning is so easy. The scanning becomes such an important feature if you are in the habit of converting all your important documents to digital like I do. No more making copies of one side of the page with multi-page documents (think insurance policies, wills, etc.), then inserting them in the right order, scanning and then reassembling the original and shredding the copied pages. I'll be saving time and trees! Good thinking HP!
