Great set. Amazing price. A+++

I’m an avid collector of the Creator Expert line. This is definitely one of the better set. It is extremely detailed and displays amazingly. I love that it can be taken apart into pieces for easy transportation.
The biggest flaw is that it has way too much repetition. Basically you could almost cut it into four equal parts.
But this is definitely one of the best sets that I have bought.

Great display model, even 12 years later.

Build:
This set's build is not for the faint of heart, even with the less advanced building techniques compared to today's sets. It has pieces that are small and the same color (for the most part), leading to confusion. On top of that, expect a large amount of repetition in the build. But if you are up for the challenge, building this behemoth is very rewarding to see become larger and larger.
Playability/ Features:
There is 0 playability with this set, so this would not make a great gift for younger builders. Instead of aiding in playability, the features of the set are instead dedicated to looks and utility. The designer did a fantastic job recreating the look of the Taj Mahal in spite of the limited part palette, making for a fantastic and eye-catching display piece. Along with great looks, the feature that allows for the separation of the set allows for easy and painless transport and storage.
Differences Made:
The set is virtually identical to the 2008 release in the parts department aside from the change in color of a few technic elements and the inclusion of a part separator. The main change comes in the build experience through the inclusion of numbered bags, making the build miles less frustrating to build than the original.
Overall:
If you have the patience and like the look of it, this set may be for you. If not, it would be best to stay far away from this set.

Missing/wrong pieces
on October 8, 2020
Posted by: Raffe
Buyer beware of missing/wrong parts. On bag 3 I was missing 4 pieces. It's never happened to me before, but fine, I get it, it happens. Ordered replacements, they arrived, ready to go again - for about 2 hours. Now, on bag 6, instead of the two 1x3s I need to finish the second facade, I have two 1x4s.
This build was supposed to be relaxing for me and it's been anything but.
I wish I could have put time to finish at infinity, because with 7 bags left to go and parts missing/wrong from a third of the bags already, I'm not sure I even WANT to finish.

WORST SET EVER!!
on March 30, 2018

WOW, I really don't know how this set has so many high reviews, yes its big and looks very well, but with that size comes flimsy and god awful design. It's so fragile and does not hold together well, all 4 tops of my towers refused to stay clutched on, the bases are super fragile, too few technic pins, out of the hundred Lego sets this by far is the worst set I've ever bought! And I've bought so crap sets over the years, this is boring, tedious and a chore to put together. I'm not a blind Lego fanboy who's swooning over this just because its big.

Hi there! Thanks for a great review! This set was recreated from the first design 10 years ago and if built on a flat hard surface will be very stable. We would recommend rebuilding the smaller towers to ensure that the bricks are clicking together so that your Taj Mahal can stand tall.

Horrible!
on February 17, 2018

This is the worst set I've ever built! It is expensive, and unstable. The base pieces don't fit together well, and the structure is rickety at best. It is so bad, I've decided to give up on Legos and never, ever buy a set again!

Taj Mahal has design flaws
on February 6, 2019
Posted by: LegoEnthusiast27
While the piece is gorgeous and definitely demands a presence in any room you place it in, it has some flaws. My biggest complaint is that it is very very unstable. It is nearly impossible to move it from one room to another or one surface to another without it falling apart and crashing to the ground. The base pieces do not fit together well and have nothing to afix them to each other except the small black round pieces. Also, the weight of the center piece is too heavy for the base when carrying, causing the base to implode inwards. My second gripe is that building the Taj Mahal is a little boring because of its symmetry. You basically just build the same things over and over again. However, there is nothing that can be done about that, that is what the Taj Mahal looks like. The lack of transportability is the real problem. It does not live up to LEGO's high level of quality control and design.

Hi there, thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear you're having trouble keeping your Taj Mahal together. I know how frustrating it can be when you’re trying to build or move your creation and pieces fall off.

It's possible that somewhere in the building process, a piece was inserted in the wrong place. This will throw off how the pieces fit together and cause the problems you mentioned. The best advice is to take it apart and build it again. Make sure you pay close attention to every step in the building instructions and push the pieces together firmly for the best possible connection.

If rebuilding doesn’t help, or if you find out you need some pieces replaced because they aren’t snapping together tightly, please reach out to our LEGO experts at LEGO.com/service

Great showpiece!

The build is not very difficult but it's very rewarding. The only drawback is the flimsy base and towers. This could have been engineered with more thought. Otherwise, once completed, it's a definite hit with those who see it on display.

Hi there, thanks for your review of the LEGO® Taj Mahal. I'm sorry to hear that you found the base and towers to be a bit flimsy. We always test and retest our models to make sure that they’ll hold up when they’re built exactly as shown in the instructions. If something ever seems like it's not very sturdy, the best thing to do is double-check your build. Sometimes there may be a piece just a little off from where it should be, which can cause instability. You’ll also want to make sure that all the pieces are pressed tightly together. If you'd like a hand troubleshooting the build, or if you find that any pieces aren't holding together as they should, feel free to give us a shout at LEGO.com/Service.
