Put your head on a rock outside - it's the best way to simulate the experience so you don't waste your money. Basically felt like my ear was bleeding midway through the night. And no - it doesn't "soften up".

could not spend the night on this pillow. I immediately had neck pain that was almost gone before I tried this pillow. I hate it! I ordered a small and neither side fit my neck. one side was too tall, the other not enough. ugh, I was so hoping for so much money I would get something that helped me, not hurt me more.

Contacted customer service to request an exchange, which required uploading a fair number of photos, only to be denied because there wasn't a "visible" dip. I had heard great things about this brand - something must have changed. Don't waste your money.
