In the interest of full disclosure I have only had this V8 for about a week. It has great suction and the "max" suction is even better! Far superior to my old Dyson cordless. The wider sweeper is great because the surface area it covers is bigger, you spend less time going back and forth over areas. The down sides: I have noticed that the junk I'm vacuuming up gets stuck in one area of the canister. It gets stuck In the area of the canister that has a plastic piece sticking out to reinforce the wall of the canister. I know why the piece is there and the purpose it serves, but I think this is a design flaw that will eventually need to be redesigned. I do not like the way this new canister is opened in order to release the inside contents to dispose of them. There is virtually NO way to do it with one hand. You have to use both. My old canister was much easier to open. Weighing the benefits of a much stronger vac over having to use two hands to open the canister, I'll take the stronger vac every time!

Hello Lynd, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've been disappointed with the battery life from your Dyson V8 Absolute. The V8 Absolute features two cleanerheads; a direct drive head with spinning brush bar - which is a great multi-floor tool, and our soft roller head, which was designed to be used on your hard floors. The soft woven nylon and anti-static carbon fibers make this the ideal tool for picking up finer dirt and dust from bare floor surfaces. Dyson V8 vacuums also have a run time of up to 40 minutes, when used in standard power mode. On MAX power, run time will be shorter due to the added boost of suction power. You should find that suction in standard power mode is sufficient for most tasks, while MAX is better suited for tough cleaning jobs. You may be interested to know that the new Dyson Cyclone V10, and our V11 models have an advertised run time of up to 60 minutes, which is our longest run time to date.
We would like to ensure that your vacuum is performing as intended. Please feel free to reach out to askdysonUS@dyson.com. We are always keen on providing support.
Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support

Battery doesn't last

Love the suction/power however, the battery does NOT last. I've already changed it out twice! I cant even vacuum 1/2 my living room and it dies yet I charge it all day and night long. It blows out hot air and kind of burns you hand a little bit. I wish they had a corded stick vacuum, that is the only way I would ever buy another one.

Hello Millie, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're happy to hear that you've been pleased with the suction that you get from the V8 Absolute cord-free. The V8 models offer two powerful suction modes; regular and MAX, ensuring that you always have the right balance of power and performance when needed. In MAX suction mode you do receive a boost of power and suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes. We would not recommend using the mode for everyday vacuuming, as you will find that it does only provide about 7 minutes of run time which is generally not enough to vacuum a whole room. Regular suction mode provides enough power for your household vacuuming, and offers up to 30-40 minutes of run time, depending on if you're using one of the motorized floor tools.
It would be normal to feel warm air coming from the motor of the machine; especially considering that this part of the machine is held in the hand. When using MAX mode the air will be much warmer, due to the extra power used to run the machine with stronger suction and power.
With regard to our corded machines, Dyson will still make, sell and support upright corded machines. However, we are no longer investing R&D resources into designing future corded machines. We’ve spent 25 years perfecting upright vacuums, and we’re confident they’re the best on the market. So we’ve turned our eyes to the future, which is cord-free.
We would value the opportunity to ensure that your vacuum is performing as designed. Please feel free to email askdysonUS@dyson.com we are happy to provide you with support.

Hello Dave, this is Kelly with Dyson. We are sorry to hear of your disappointment with your recent purchase of the Dyson V8 Absolute. We definitely wouldn't expect to hear that you've found this machine to be cheaply made or constructed. Dyson cord-free machines are made from polycarbonate ABS - the same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. They are tough, so we subject them to hours of testing, including drop and impact tests. Dyson machines are built to withstand years of residential household use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3iXRFizaz8
Your V8 will also include two suction modes, regular and MAX. You should find that the suction provided in regular mode is sufficient for your everyday vacuuming. MAX mode will provide a boost of suction, which is intended for larger debris or more stubborn messes.
We're keen to learn more about your experience to provide support. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at askdysonus@dyson.com.

Great suction!

For a cordless vacuum, the power on the Dyson V8 Absolute is great. I would rate it 5 stars, except for one thing: the fact that you have to hold the button in the whole time you're vacuuming. I'm a healthy 76-year-old with mild arthritis in my hands. The Dyson is a bit heavy, but I could handle the weight if I didn't have to keep the button pressed. An On/Off switch would be a great improvement.
