Have been using the V6 for about 6 months. The V8 is quieter, cleaner (no touching the bit to clear out debris like the V6, floor rollers seem to track better and pick up more debris than the V6. This is the machine I was hoping the V6 would be. Just awesome!

Great suction, a little top-heavy

I read many reviews before purchasing and decided to buy this model as it seemed to balance the various pros and cons. So far, my experience with it is just like other reviews. On the positive side, it has great suction, a long battery life, converts to a handheld, and has useful attachments. The price point was bearable (just). On the negative side, it is top-heavy, and combined with the fact that there is no “on” switch, just a trigger, it is tiring to use for long periods. Also, the length of the stick is not adjustable, and as a short person, I find it a bit too long. Finally, the main attachment is best for carpet, and is noisy on hardwood, so I had to order an extra attachment for bare floors. If I were to buy again, I would consider a model with an “on” switch, and that came with a bare floor attachment.

No go for carpets

So this will be my third dyson. I love the brand and have had success with my animal corded vacuums for years…so I figured let’s try the cordless. Well the battery life out of the box is fair. At about 8minutes it can not hold enough power to go from hardwoods to carpet. The carpet head doesn’t seem to be made for any type of carpet. I have a very low tight knit entry rug, a cow hide and an area rug which the carpet dyson head will quit spinning all together on. I don’t think it cleans it or gets up the dirt or debris my 7 year old and dog drag through the house. I am extremely disappointed and wish I would have stuck with the corded animal!

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're happy to hear that thus far in your use with the Dyson brand, you've been pleased with the overall performance of our machines. I can confirm, based on your review and the run time you received initially, that our cord-free machines do come switched on to MAX power right out of the box. In this mode, you receive a boost of powerful suction, ideal for larger messes or more stubborn debris. Due to the extra power draw, this mode does only give about 7-8 minutes of run time on a full battery charge.
In regular mode, run times will be 30-40 minutes, depending on if you're using a motorized attachment. It would be unusual to hear that you're struggling with the floor tool on your carpeting. Having said that, thicker or more plush pile carpets may require you to adjust the suction. If you're vacuuming an area rug that isn't fixed down to the flooring underneath, you may also notice the floor tool sticking to the flooring, as the suction is forming a tight seal to the flooring underneath. This can also be resolved in most instances by adjusting the suction being used.
We are happy to go over your machine with you to help with any questions you may have, as well as to assist with ensuring your machine is performing as intended. Please consider emailing us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support

Hello Jan, this is Kelly with Dyson. We would certainly not expect a blister or any type of sore to occur as a result of using your Dyson product. If you are finding this to be your experience, we would recommend holding the unit lower down the handle to prevent rubbing or pressure on the top of your hand. Please also keep in mind that Dyson cordless vacuums will feature a runtime enhancing light touch trigger, which requires little pressure to run the unit as well. It may also prove helpful to ensure the unit is held with a firm, but not a very tight grasp, given that the light touch trigger does not require a very hard press or grasp to operate. If we can ever be of assistance with anything else, please do not take to let us know.

The Best!!

This is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. I have a V6 mattress handheld which when I realized how great it worked, wished I had gotten the cordless floor model. When the V8 was introduced I knew I wanted one The V8 is quieter, more powerful and much longer battery life. The attachments are great and the improved bin release great too. The 2 floor attachments get into so many narrow spaces I couldn't before. No More Cord. This is now my number 1 go to vac. I have carpet, hard floors and a shedder cat. Did my car. I think this is easily going to replace my Dyson cannister. I have had 3 Dyson uprights, a cannister and now two cordless vacs. So I'm a big Dyson fan. This vac exceeded my expectations but I'm keeping the V6 too. Dyson's customer service is also exceptional. It's pricey but worth every penny.

A new way to vacuum

I owned the earlier version of Dyson battery powered vacuums and really liked them because it took me a fraction of the time to vacuum the house and stairs - no more heavy canisters and no moving plugs. The downsides were that the battery only lasted for 20 minutes and I kept a chopstick handy to clear the vacuum chamber. Those downsides seemed relatively minor, but are gone with this new model. The charge really does last for 40 minutes - enough to vacuum the entire house - and the vacuum chamber seems easier to clear out. No more chopsticks needed! I love this and want to buy one for each of my college kids!

These people know what they are doing. Love this Dyson V8. Works incredibly well and EASY to clean. The HEPA filter gives me piece of mind in picking up all the dust in the house.
