Light weight and powerful

I was skeptical that this would pick up my Golden Retriever's fur off carpet, but this Animal is powerful! I couldn't use my other vacuum without enduring back/should/neck pain because it was so hard to push on carpet. I received through a corporate gift catalog purchase and am so glad I chose this item.

Great for dog hair and quick clean up!

Just picked up the machine. Easy to put together and use after the recommended 5 hr initial charge. The dirt reservoir is a little small-wish it was bigger because we have 4 dogs and it fills up fast with the dog bunnies but I knew that going into it so its not a big deal.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Battery time

Great vacuum except that it takes too long to charge and runs only for 20 minutes or less , very disappointed . It should have a system that allows for a spare battery that you charge while using the vacuum; 20 minutes is only good for one or two rooms. Might return it .

My house is cleaner

No more dragging the heavy corded vacuum around and replugging it into another outlet. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats so I should vacuum every day but it used to be so much work, even though I had a good vacuum cleaner. Now I can! The attachments snap on easily and my life has improved!

Many Frustrations & Questions on Operability

I have many frustrations with this product for it being so expensive. I've owned this for about 3 years now, and certain things continue to frustrate me to no end:
1) the battery life STINKS. Even when it's fully charged, I swear every time I go to use it, it last for 1 minute before it shuts off and I have to charge it. Does the battery still get used up when the vacuum isn't in use? I feel as if this is the only thing that could explain why it's dead 99% of the time when I reach to use it.
2) Is there a way to just have it be on permanently and turn off? I see no on/off button and absolutely HATE that I have to constantly hold the power button down while it's in use - it's annoying and bothers my fingers after a while.
3) How do I know if the MAX button is in use? How do I turn it on/off? When I press it, I see no noticeable difference that indicates whether it is or isn't in use. Whenever I am using the vacuum, the MAX button glows so I presume it's on but honestly, the suction just isn't there regardless. As many users have said, it doesn't really pick up hair, and even after cleaning the bristles in the main head and pulling the hair out, I just feel like it severely lacks in picking things up both on carpets and hard surfaces. Do you need to replace the heads of this machine after a while to keep the benefits of the vacuum?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi Lisa, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to share your review of the Dyson V8 Animal. With regard to your battery, it's perfectly fine to leave that on the dock at all times; the battery and charger communicate and the battery will stop charging, once it's been fully recharged. That being said, over time the machine will naturally lose its run time but the level of degradation over the years is very small. Battery degradation is not a fault of the machine. It happens to all batteries in everyday items, such as mobile phones and laptops. We do carry replacement batteries on the Dyson website, which include a free 1-year guarantee.
This machine, like the majority of our cord-free machines does have an on/off trigger. The trigger does need to be held down in order to power the machine. There is not a way to lock the trigger while in use. With regard to the suction levels, when your machine is new, right out of the box it will be in MAX suction mode. This mode provides a boost of suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes, and will give roughly 7 minutes of run time. This mode isn't intended for everyday household cleaning, as most households will find that regular power is sufficient for your vacuuming needs. In regular suction mode, you'll get 30-40 minutes of run time, depending on if using a motorized attachment.
While we never expect any issues to occur with your vacuum, we do make ourselves available via live chat, phone and email, should help ever be needed. Regardless of warranty status, we are always on call to provide troubleshooting assistance, and would value the opportunity to ensure that your Dyson is performing as intended. So Convenient!

I am very happy with the convenience of no cord and easy maneuverability! I am able to get the job done is much less time - no running out of cord or searching for an outlet. I just lift it from the charging base and get going! We have 5 Shih Tzu's, 1 long-haired Daschund-King Charles mix, and a 21 year old cat so vacuuming is a regular event. The motors have died within the first year with every vacuum we owned (except our wet/dry vac) over the last 6 years. Since getting the Dyson V-8 Animal for Christmas I've only used it twice so far so I am hoping for the best! Oh, I'll hope to never have to back to the hassle of a power cord!

It's ok, but not impressed

We got our first Dyson about 2 weeks ago. We were so excited! All of our friends have then and seem to love them. First, I will say, it works tremendously as a vacuum. It does exactly as expected. The battery is....alright, it lasts as long as can be expected for the size of it.
Now my complaint. If the vacuum was created by a PH.D, the attachments are made by a 5 year old. Idk what they are made for, but it's not to clean anything. I can't even pick up dog hair off a leather couch. Overall, IF we buy another Dyson, it won't be this model.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The powerful direct-drive cleanerhead removes ground-in dirt and pet hair from carpets, and self-adjusts to pick up dirt and debris from your bare floors. We're sorry to learn you've been so frustrated with the included attachments. It's unusual to hear that you're finding pet hair is not being picked up while using your vacuum. Dyson V8 Animal features two suction modes; MAX and standard. Please keep in mind that the V8 offers plenty of suction on normal power to effectively clean your floors because of the motorized brush bar. MAX power is really only needed for tough cleaning jobs. If you are finding that debris is left behind, you may wish to switch your machine over to MAX power, to get that extra boost of powerful suction.
