When we first got this vacuum I loved it! It did such a great job on our carpet for quick touch ups and messes, but then transitioned right to hard wood and linoleum too. In fact, it did such a great job that I almost stopped using my beloved big vacuum. But now, I’m so disappointed!! The battery doesn’t hold a charge and the vacuum shuts off as soon as it touches the carpet and tries to get suction. At this price, a vacuum should last A LOT longer. Lesson learned and I guess it’s back to the big vacuum...

Hello there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're happy to hear that in your initial use, you were so happy with the performance from your Dyson V8 Animal. We're glad that you found that it worked so well on your carpets, as well as your hard wood and linoleum. The direct-drive cleaner head on our V8 models removed ground-in dirt from carpets with ease. With regard to the battery life from your V8, Lithium-Ion batteries are subject to degradation over time. This is completely normal and occurs with any device that uses this type of battery. Unfortunately, we are unable to advise how long each component will last in each individual's home. Having said that, we would certainly value the opportunity to go over your machine with you, to help make sure that it's performing as intended. Please feel free to contact us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We are keen on providing you with support and learning more about your experience.

Great cordless vac, but one concern

Great cordless vacuum, probably the best one we have had to date. It is lite, has great accessibility into tight areas and the suction is super. My only concern is the life of the battery. It seems it only last about 20 mins. when we do a detail vacuum job. I have check the charging station and everything seems fine. Please advise.

Great light weight sweeper!

This is our 3rd Dyson to own. Started with one of the original styles and later purchased a ball Dyson, which was great. We have now purchased the Dyson V8 Animal. It's light weight, cordless & has a long run time on a full charge. We also like the motorized attachment that allows you to use the sweeper as a cordless hand vac. The wall mounted docking station keeps the vac handy when needed. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Vacuum is great--storage is not

The vacuum itself is a powerful stick vacuum that works well on hard surfaces and rugs. It lasts a pretty long time. The vacuum comes with four attachments and a docking station; weirdly, the docking stations holds only two of the attachments. Disappointing lack of design consideration from Dyson.

Terrible Product

I purchased this product on the recommendation of other people. I am a 70 year old woman with a little arthritis in my fingers and knees. This machine has to be powered by holding the power button down at all times while in use. It has no capability of standing up by itself, therefore, if you need to stop running the machine, you have to bend down to lay it down and then pick it up. This particular machine is advertised to run up to 40 minutes. In using the machine, I have never had it last more than 8-10 minutes, not even enough time to vacuum my kitchen floors or my living room area rug. The suction on the low setting does not pick up things like seeds from multi-grain bread and it will not run on my carpet at all.

Hello, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to share your review of the Dyson V8 Animal Cord-Free vacuum. We know that battery run time is a very important aspect of performance for our owners, so we developed a trigger that helps maximize the amount of time you can clean on one charge. We chose a light-touch trigger over an on/off switch to ensure that battery life is never wasted by letting the machine run when it's not in active use. I can also confirm that the machine does not lock into place, to stand on its own. When moving from room to room, you would need to push or carry the machine.
The V8 offers two powerful suction modes, for your use. MAX suction provides a generous boost of power for more stubborn messes or larger debris. This mode will give you about 7 minutes of run time, so it sounds like you may be relying on this mode for your every day vacuuming. While you certainly can use MAX more often, it will provide significantly less run time and overall quicker battery degradation. Also, while using the machine in MAX it can run warmer due to the extra power it uses in the motor and battery. When using this mode, we would recommend allowing the machine some time to cool down, before placing back on the charger. In the regular suction mode, you should get 30-40 minutes of run time depending on if you're using the motorized floor tool.
We'd value the opportunity to go over your machine with you, to make sure that it's performing as intended. Please feel free to contact us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We will be in touch.

LOVE this vacuum!!!

Just bought the V8 (owned a V6). I couldn't last for even a few days without my V6, went out and bought the V8 Animal. It is even better than the V6 - similar design, but even easier to use PLUS a 40 minute battery, wow! It's lightweight and has easy to plug in attachments. I use it for my stairs, hard to reach ceiling corners, my car, pretty much everywhere. While it is an investment, I highly recommend spending the money, you won't regret it!

Great vacuum but not very durable at all
on October 13, 2019

This was our 3rd Dyson stick vacuum in maybe 5 or 6 years. We've liked it because it does a good job and is light and easy to use, but the last one we bought has been even less durable than the others. we've generally bought a new one after the warranty expires, but usually some part is breaking off. This last one, we've been getting by taping pieces together, but it's just been bad. We tape the container shut because it doesn't latch well, but we could get by with that, but now the head has broken where the head meets the hose/tube; the plastic broke inside. Just poor materials and quality. We bought it in Feb and and now it's pretty much useless. Contacting support to see how I can get it fixed under warranty. Hopefully I can but I'm definitely looking around to see if other manufacturers make some more durable products.

Disappointed
on December 16, 2020

I bought this vacuum not even 6 months ago. I was SO excited to finally get a Dyson vacuum! Especially with the convenience of it being cordless and easily portable. I do have dogs, so I did purchase the Animal series thinking that it could keep up. I received it and it was really easy to set up and get going. After using it ONE time, it began pulsating and had never stopped. I can’t even vacuum for more than 10 minutes without it starting to pulsate. I have detached every attachment and cleaned (according to Dyson cleaning recommendations) and it lasts for about 5 minutes. I find myself being so frustrated with it that I will just give up cleaning and put it back on the charger, and that’s on the low mode! It’s beyond frustrating and I’m pretty disappointed in it. I find myself having to “deep clean” it at least every other use. It takes the convenience right out of the vacuum.

Hello Josie, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that right after your initial use of your V8 Animal, you experienced a pulsing or revving noise. This noise is an alert, letting you know that your filter needs to be cleaned (not your likely cause, as you mentioned it happened almost immediately), or, that there is a blockage in your machine. We'd value the opportunity to go over your machine with you to learn more about your experience and provide you with support to assist with resolving the problem. Please feel free to contact us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We are keen on providing you with support.
