I vacuum every day and wanted another vacuum I could easily transport between levels of home. This is my second Dyson and I couldn't be happier with it. I realized quickly if I wanted to make the power last longer I needed to vacuum in the lower power which is fine in most cases since I vacuum daily. I love, love, love the duster extension. Makes it super convenient to run around my house and dust all baseboards, windowsills, etc. I will say, because of the limited power time you have with each charge, I would not replace my standard vacuum (which also happens to be a Dyson). Also, the only reason I didn't give it five stars is because you are currently unable to purchase an extra battery pack.

My High Expectations Meet Hard Reality

I've used the Dyson for a little over a week and ultimately find that I am disappointed in performance of the V8. While the V8 looks great and is easy to use, my disappointment ultimately stems from the subpar battery life, the dismal suction power, and the poor performance on cleaning carpets. I currently own a canister vacuum that has great suction. To get comparable suction, I had to have my V8 set to max mode. The problem with max mode, though, is that the battery does not last for more than 7 minutes. At 7 minutes, I almost was able to clean my entire SUV. If I use the extended suction mode, I get more time but then the unit struggles to pick up dirt in highly soiled areas.
I noted that carpet performance is poor. We have a fair amount of carpets in the house. Compared to my canister vacuum, the Dyson underperforms in truly deep-cleaning the carpets. Part of the problem is the suction issue, but a big part of the problem is that the height of the head is 1) not adjustable, 2) the motor head is light and often glides over the carpet, and 3) the motor itself that turns the brush roll seems to lose power in thicker carpet.
The V8 has its place in the home, but honestly I cannot say this is the only vacuum you will need in your home. Really this should be your secondary vacuum that is used as a quick convenience to pulling out the corded vacuum.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I dont know why you dont hi-lite the fact that the charger is 120-240 volt , 50/60 Hz.

It's a gift for myself. Receiving it, I can easily figure out why many people have loved Dyson's cordless. Holding a trigger more than 10 minutes, I felt slightly inconvenient. I would recommend Dyson think a locking system on the trigger.

I traded up from the V6, which I loved, and the V8 is even better. Lots of suction on this machine. Rugs come noticeably cleaner and it seems much quieter than the V6. I also really like the new way to empty the dirt. Kudos to all.

A Must-Have for Parents of Toddlers!

From spilled cereal to kinetic sand, we needed a versatile machine for all the small messes. The Dyson V8 Absolute has met this need and also worked far beyond our expectations. It has become our go-to vacuum, over a once-beloved robotic option from another brand. It has came in handy on stairs, large rooms and even our vehicles and boat.
We even put it to the ultimate test... I tried it immediately after our cleaners left, and sure enough, the canister still needed to be emptied!
The only (minor) issue we experienced was the lid coming disconnected when emptying the canister, but my husband was able to reattach.
We have recommended the V8 to four other couples with young children. It is definitely a parent must-have!

Plus: easy to use. Makes just doing one room a snap. Not having to lug a big machine around and worry with cord is great.
Minus. The mounting bracket and cord alignment not so great. Afraid the cord will fatigue & break
