So, we have three dogs and we've had a DC14 corded vac for probably 15 years or more. We got a DC31 handheld to do stuff like furniture when it came out, then when we moved to a house with mostly hardwoods, we got a couple of DC35s some time ago. They worked great for hardwoods for a clean here or there between a major one, but for rugs, not so much, so we kept that old DC14. But, I always thought if they could come up with a cordless that was 90% as good for twice the price, I'd get it.
Now, we just got a V8 Absolute and everything has changed. I'm pretty sure I'll get rid of the old corded vacuum because the V8 is at least 90% as good as that DC14 and it was a bit less expensive!
The first thing I noticed about the V8 is it looks and feels more refined than the DC3x vacs we had. Lots of improvements are immediately visible and the new emptying mechanism and latch systems are great. No needing to take the bin off or reach up and pull that hair out from around the bottom of the cyclone unit. The attachments come off effortlessly without having to take your other hand off the power head. What you don't see are the improvements in the batteries. It lasts so much longer than the DC35 even when it was new. Using it on high mode it gives better life than the 35 on low. Pull the trigger and at the same time, you realize it has serious power and is more quiet than the older ones.
The new felt floor tool is perfect for hardwoods, with little to know blow back and the new brush actually has enough power for the rugs we have. I really raises the nap up on them where the older ones were just good for a quick hot on dog hair, maybe.
All in all, I feel the cordless vacuums have finally come up to being able to be used for all cleaning and do a thorough job of it.

Easy to use

I just bought this vacuum 2 weeks ago and it works great. The battery lasted long enough for me to get done what I needed to get done. Easy to use and easy to empty. I really like the vacuum for quick jobs!

We compete now for who is going to vacuum. Yes, competition over who is going to vacuum. This vacuum is perfect! It is so mobile, we can reach areas we couldn't before. That the vacuum is portable (no cord), not to mention light makes this a best buy! Love it!

Great Small vacuum

Always want to have one of these, we’ll finally. I gave it 4 start because the first time after I have wait 5+ hours charging it, die in 10 min. Then I figure out and change to the lower setting, then my hand was a little brunt with the heat, because needs to be hold all the time while cleaning. After a curve of learning works great, clean the carpet and the hardwood floors very nice, even the seat of the car and car seat (which have some food all the time). Is slim, very good I’m very happy I have it with me to clean. I wish the time of work was a little longer for sure in the powerful mode, that is the best for clean, the lower clean very nice but I need to do it couple of time. But definitely recommend, or I might get the V12 in exchange of this one.

Not worth the money that you pay

I have been using this for almost 19 months now. First the animal model doesn’t come with the soft roller brush that is especially designed for the hardwood floor. Though Dyson claims that the brush that is being provided can be used on all floor types, it actually does scratch your hardwood floor. I ended up spending more to get the soft roller brush.Second it is good at picking up the finest dust particles but is unable to handle bits and pieces of even paper towels. The roller head will either stop working or the paper pieces would be stuck in the suction hole causing it to loose the suction. In recent times am noticing that the battery life is deteriorating. It doesn’t last more than 25 minutes. On top of all these I personally feel that the customer service of Dyson could be even better. Expect to get a better product for the high price we pay.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. The V8 Animal model does only come with the direct drive cleaner head. The Absolute model will include that, plus the soft roller head as a standard included item. While the brush bar on the Animal is generally safe for all floors, we do always recommend checking with your flooring manufacturer, prior to use. Not all floor makers will suggest the use of a spinning brush bar, or even a high-powered device such as a Dyson.
If you are finding debris is getting left behind when you vacuum, we do suggest putting your machine in to MAX suction power. This mode does provide a boost of suction for bigger debris or more stubborn messes. You will want to ensure that you're keeping your machine clean, and keeping the airflow pathway clear to prevent any blockages or suction issues.
