A worthy upgrade over my DC-35 cordless stick

I am very impressed with the improvements in the V8 Absolute as compared to my old Dyson DC-35 cordless stick vacuum. The V8 is very quiet even on the high setting. The trigger is much easier to operate (requires less force). And the suction power is fantastic. I can pick up more fine dust and hair. It's also very maneuverable and light-weight enough for comfortable use.
The V8 is best if you mostly have hard floors (which we do). The direct drive cleaner head works extremely well on our rugs, but it does use up the battery faster. Since we mostly have hard floors, this is not an issue. However, if you mostly have carpeted floors you might want to consider a corded vacuum or else just plan to use the V8 for occasional cleaning on carpets.

Mostly replaced my upright Dyson

Just retired a 12 year old Dyson Animal and I also have a Dyson Ball Animal that is a few years old. The V8 is so much more convenient to use due to the lighter weight and no need to unwrap and wrap a cord.
The charge lasts long enough to do all the cleaning I need and the V8 is relatively quiet at the lower power setting.
The bin collector is a bit small, but that goes with the territory with something this small and light.
There are a few changes/upgrades I would love to see. 1) the ability to swap batteries and have a spare. 2) a way to lock the trigger so that it doesn't need to be constantly held during use. 3) when in use, the weight of the V8 tends to push against the thenar space between my thumb and index finger, creating pressure and discomfort. Giving this area a more ergonomic shape and/or adding some padding there would make it more comfortable to use.
Otherwise, I am very satisfied with the V8 and I am almost...almost over the high cost of entry. My only worry right now is the battery not holding a charge after a couple of years of use. Time will tell.

EASE OF USE

I purchased this machine 3 days ago and I like that it's so light and has a long handle which makes it easy to use. I have a bad back and this is why I was attracted to this vacuum cleaner. It also cleans both carpet and bare floors well. However the down side is that the charge doesn't last long, not even an hour so you are unable to finish cleaning a large house without recharging and this takes a while. Also you must keep your finger pressed on the power button while you are vacuuming. When you remove your finger the machine shuts off.

The low profile head is perfect for my laminate pho- wood floors. I tried reusable & disposable dust mops & still had to chase bits to the end. This is perfect alone or pre- mopping. I love it

I am 78 years old and have household help. However, my maids never satisfactorily clean up hair from my two kitties, or vacuum under beds or in corners enough to suit me. I really like this lightweight, powerful, cordless machine. I felt very extravagant buying the V8, but am glad I did.

You THOUGHT your house was clean....

House was professionally cleaned on a Friday; Dyson arrived as a gift a few days later. The container was filled with dust after 15 minutes of use! Even better, we discovered that asking children who were back home for the holidays to 'give it a go' resulted in non-stop use for the Dyson, and consequently in multiple emptied bins of dust. This product is a winner. We decided to give the V6 to our kids with NY apartments after using the V8 on our home (the big difference is time between charges). It's that good....
