I actually bought this as a garage solution, my only questioning thought was I probably should have bought a bigger BTU model but it works out of the box so that is always a plus. I decided if I was going to cut a hole, I wanted to do it in a place that could be easily repaired and instead of a split AC I wanted something that I could easily replace/upgrade, so I chose to put a hole in a garage door panel with a vent that would clear and a portable 12k BTU which is supposed to cool the 500ft-sq. It's portable and blows reasonably cool air and the dehumidifier is very efficient and needed here in the South, I can aim the unit in the direction I want, (especially my workbench), it's easy to disconnect when I want to open/close the door. I used a stovepipe to keep the vent and exhaust hole stable. The door stays closed except to get the bikes out as the side door leads to the carport where the truck RV pad is. All in all, it seems a very good bang for the buck.
