I reviewed many motherboards before purchasing this unit. I was glad I waited. The Z790 feature with its lightning fast transfer rate is what sold me. This is my first build where things went so smoothly it was scary. In fact, I kept waiting for that "Oh No" moment which never came. Armory Crate took care of ensuring all of my necessary drivers and updates were downloaded in a very painless manner. With capabilities to have 5 internal drives, there is very little reason to use a SATA SSD unless you have and just want to use. Given a large enough power supply you could install at least 10 drives between the M.2s and SSDs. Another nice feature is the wifi antenna has a magnetic base which is great to keep it from tipping over. All in all, very happy with this unit and alas it comes with a decent warranty.

Great motherboard, good overclocking features, but there is one SUPER annoying detail. After about 10 minutes, the motherboard’s rgb will turn off, and the ram rgb will just pause where it was when the motherboard rgb turns off. After doing some research, it looks like the problem is the aura sync in Armoury crate goes into standby mode. I don’t think there is a way to turn this off, but it is really annoying. Another annoying thing is that the ai overclocking feature seems like it doesn’t adjust after the system crashes. Turned it on, the pc crashed multiple times, and it didn’t lower the overclocking. I had to turn it off and do it manually. Anyway, there are some frustrating things about this mobo, but overall, it has performed pretty well.

So many Headers and options easy for building, only gripe was the 3rd and 4th fan headers were right under cpu cooler, so using. big cooler like NH-D15 takes some skinny fingers.

The ROG Strix Z790-E is an outstanding motherboard! I installed an i9-13900K and 64GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, along with an ASUS TUF-Gaming RTX 4090 OC, and two Samsung 990 Pro NVME drives. This is the FASTEST performance system I have ever built in 35+ years of building PCs. I am a dedicated ASUS customer and fan. MANY options on this motherboard as well!
