This is a great doorbell. I was able to install it, and have it up and running in less than 30 minutes using the Lorex home app for Android. I was able to find all the information for adding it to mt Lorex N842A82 NVR. Video quality is great. It aesthetically this looks better than any other doorbell. And with no contracts! The two way talk works great, and the prerecorded responses makes it easy to respond to the doo when you are unable to speak.

Not knowing anything about video

Not knowing anything about video doorbells other than hearing about a few from friends - this is a great product! Great price point and simple installation!
Out of the box read thru the installation booklet, made sure all parts were in box, turned off power to area and off we went. We used one of the mounting plates/brackets to angle it for best view. Simply replaced our existing doorbell and it took less that 15 minutes. I downloaded the app, scanned the QR code from the product, it was simple and walked me thru setup and set up wifi settings easily. You have a choice for doorbell chime, either electronic or mechanical, we have the old fashioned mechanical one and the only challenge we had was getting the chime kit to fit inside the doorbell box and had to mount it on the outside - no biggie, looks fine there.
Once we established the doorbell worked, chime played, we tested out many video settings and sensitivity setting for a few days. I placed it on the High (2x1080p HD) setting for best view, and turned on the HDR mode because it is on our front porch that has a sensor porch light that is pretty bright - as this optimizes the video picture. I adjusted the sound settings so that it isn't too loud but clear voice was recognizable.
The only thing I have had to play around with were sensitivity settings to pick up things like, package delivery, mail delivery, paper delivery, and unfortunately idiots driving too fast down our street! Initially I had a high setting and it was picking up bugs flying by and branches blowing. I changed the motion detection settings and personalized the motion zones which helped with those issues. Because we have a dusk to dawn porch light, I turned off the Night Light Mode as it was overkill on the lighting.
The video clarity is amazing and it allows you to zoom in on the video, take snippet pictures and videos of portions of the captured video. I also appreciate that there is no monthly fee and all storage is on the SD card that inside the doorbell.
Absolutely would recommend this product!! Very please with all aspects.

One of the best things

One of the best things about this visually is how subtle it is. Many other smart doorbells are large and klunky and stand out. This one is clean and fairly small. App setup is very simple and straight forward. Once you sign up for an account, its just a matter of scanning the doorbell QR code. I have a mechanical doorbell and so that setup was easy as well, just add a couple wires to the existing setup and then mount the new module to your existing bell Installation of the door bell is very easy, just remove two wires from the old bell and install on the new one. The only potential issue is dependent on the surface you're mounting to. In my case i have vinyl siding. it would have been easier if you could adjust the orientation 90 degrees within the app but i could not figure out how to much less if it was even possible. Because of this i had to a board to the house then the bell to that. I plan to use a router on the board to make it look presentable and then paint it when i get a chance. not being able to change doorbell orientation is my only negative and reason for dinging a star.
The picture is very crisp and clear. I've attached daytime, night time with no porch lights and night time with porch lights on. all good quality. The nightlight is nice, especially if its not mounted near a porch light. I do have a porch light so i opted to turn it off. I also disabled the status light ring around the door bell button itself (red blue green) i don't want to bring extra attention to it at night. The quick responses are great for when you're in the middle of something and someone shows up. I'd prefer if it let you record your own sound bite to make it more personable but the voice it provides isn't bad.
So far I've had 35 alerts trigger and record and I've only used 1GB of the included 32GB microSD card, so depending on how busy your door is, you can go a fair bit before the card fills up, could probably get a larger card if needed. I like that there's no online subscription service and everything is local but i can still pull pictures/video down to my phone. Makes things real convenient and a no brainer as far as which brand of camera to get.

The Lorex - 2K QHD
on January 28, 2021

The Lorex - 2K QHD Wired Video Doorbell With Person Detection is a stunning piece of technology. Prior to connecting it, I used NEST Hello Doorbell. The Lorex 2K QHD offers substantially greater video quality than NEST Hello. Everything is included for a quick & easy installation. Amazon Echo Show (Alexa) can immediately access the doorbell.
A MicroSD card is included for local video recording. This offers the best of both worlds: You have immediate access to the camera from your cellphone or Alexa. And it stores video internally, so no monthly monitoring charge is due (you can even set what areas of the camera to watch for movement). Without the monthly monitoring charge, the operating cost is far less than NEST HELLO or RING PRO; you only pay for the initial purchase price, which is very reasonable.
This Doorbell even offers a motion-activated LED that can be activated when it detects a person. There is a Lorex Home app that alerts you when the camera senses motion.
CONCLUSION:
Lorex - 2K QHD Wired Video Doorbell is one awesome Video Camera - it even offers HDR Imaging - for your doorbell. It is easy to install, offers beautiful day & night video. This is the Top-of-the-Line Video Doorbell available today.

Having owned multiple Lorex security
on January 27, 2021

Having owned multiple Lorex security camera systems, I was excited to get this new doorbell camera. They continuously update their applications and firmware and I have not experienced and hardware issues. The first Lorex camera system I installed has been working for over 3 years without any issues whatsoever. Lorex has not disappointed with this new doorbell camera. It is very easy to install, has good quality recording, and has all the features necessary for a doorbell camera. This unit does require a hardwire (which I prefer), but they built in a USB port which allows you to troubleshoot indoors. Lorex also doesnt require any ridiculous subscription fees since it has local storage. Overall, I highly recommend this doorbell camera over most of the options available on the market today.
Design: As seen in the pictures, this is a medium sized doorbell camera. Overall, it lacks a clean and high-end look, but it is not an eyesore, either. Its fairly compact but has good weight on it. The unit has a large and easy to identify lighted doorbell button. I prefer the rectangular shape which helps is blend into the wall and make it less noticeable from afar.
Installation: Extremely quick and simple. Lorex include extra cables, mounting plates, and even a drill bit to make the installation process seamless and quick. The mounting plates allow you to angle to camera more appropriately, but I do wish these manufacturers would start including right angle mounting options. All you need to do is power off your current doorbell, take it off the wall, run the wire through the mounting plate, mount the plate, attach the doorbell camera, and flip the power on. This can be done in 20 minutes. The process to download the app and have the camera connected was impressively easy and took me less than 10 minutes. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the installation process of this doorbell camera.
Function/Use: The doorbell camera has a built LED light which is far brighter than expected and a huge bonus. The motion detector is pretty sensitive off the bat, so adjustments would probably needed to be made based on personal preference. I never had any issues with the camera detecting motion and the automatic LED light is a great added benefit. Once someone rings the doorbell, I receive a notification on my phone almost instantaneously on and off WiFi. Usually there is an initial degraded picture quality while it buffers. The recorded picture quality has been impressive and the wide angle view really picks up a large area. You cant really make out faces well until they are within ~8feet or so of the camera based on lighting. Unfortunately, I dont have control of my outdoor light but with decent outdoor lighting, the nighttime capabilities of the camera are impressive. I suggest having some lighting at your doorstep since this camera performs very well with just a little help at night. Overall, I am happy with the day and night video quality and believe its as good and better than competitors products.
App/Audio: The app is super easy to use and allows you to customize the functionality of the device. The app did not crash and it was very easy to access live and recorded videos. You can also easily manage other Lorex devices. Again, I was impressed with the level of thought and sophistication Lorex has put in here. The audio interface was clear and extremely easy to use. No breaks in connections or difficulty hearing. The best part was that you can use pre-recorded messages. That way, you dont have to worry about answering right away or at all.
Overall/TL;DR: This is an impressive doorbell camera. Lorex has made a quality product with no added fees. This doorbell camera is among the best I have seen and I would highly recommend this as a first choice device.

UNBOXING, SETUP, AND INITIAL IMPRESSIONS:
on January 30, 2021
Posted by: Anonymous
UNBOXING, SETUP, AND INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Packaging is simple, laid out in well-organized mannerand, while somewhat environmentally-friendly, NOT as environmentally-friendly as it could have been, or as other manufacturers are doing. For starters, the doorbell was in a plastic bag, which is doesnt need to beit could have just had a protective plastic layer on the front. Beyond that, every individual item type (except for the ChimeKit) was in its own separate plastic bag. Talk about a waste of plastic bags, and VERY environmentally-UNFRIENDLY. At least they could have grouped the included accessories into (far) fewer plastic bags. Even better, all included accessories could have been placed into as few as 1-2 bags.
Thankfully, setup is much better than their packaging job. For those already having Lorex products utilizing the Lorex Home app, youre already a few steps aheadfor everyone else, you need to download/install Lorex Home onto your mobile device, as thats what youll not only use for remote viewing, but also for getting everything set up. Im not going to walk people reading this through the entire processbut, I will mention that, for those with mechanical chimes, installation will involve a few additional (but quick & simple) steps, which WILL need to be done AFTER removing the old doorbell, but BEFORE installing the Lorex doorbellbut, before you do any of that, you have to connect the doorbell to the app.
To do that, you have to (temporarily) power the doorbell via the microUSB port on the back (note: there is also a microSD, which records video, should there be any problems with accessing video via the app, or your computer). Im not going to bother providing detailed info here, as the app will walk you through every set-up step. I will, however, cover more in the LOREX HOME APP section, below. Once the doorbell has been connected to the app, you can move onto the physical installation. In installing the doorbell, one thing I immediately liked was the inclusion of a vertical angled bracket. Some video doorbells only include the base flat bracket, while others also include an angled left/right bracket. Lorex has one-upped them all by also including an up/down (5 degrees) angled bracket. Physically connecting the doorbell is as simple as connecting a standard doorbelltwo wires, and its done. For those with in-wall wiring thats a bit short, Lorex has you covered theyve included an optional extension.
LOREX HOME APP & IMAGE/AUDIO QUALITY: Getting back to the apponce the doorbell is installed, and youve turned the power back on (yes, you NEED to turn power off before starting), youre ready to customize settings. In customizing the settings, Lorex has broken things up into six categories Person Detection, Status LED, Night Light Mode, Shared Users, Quick Responses, & Video Settings. Each is self-explanatory. Some video doorbells (ex. the Ring doorbell installed at my moms house, and the Google Nest Hello doorbell installed at my dads) have a 16:9 ratio, which is fine for a TV screenbut, not so appealing for viewing a video doorbell image. Thankfully, Lorex understands this the Lorex video doorbell presents a less-nauseating 4:3 format. Being a 2K camera (as opposed to the 1080p most others use), images are crisp & clear. With HDR, you also get more uniformity in lighting (although, I will admit, colors can sometimes be slightly exaggerated). In all honesty, I would have probably preferred better automated lighting control over HDR, but HDR is the latest craze, and everyone seems to be jumping onboard. At the same time, I REALLY like the mechanical filter. The built-in light sensor determines when its day, or night, and moves the filter into, or out-of, place as needed. If you decide to test this for yourself (using a flashlight at night, or your hands during the day), you can actually hear an audible click as the filter moves in/out of place. Lastly, Ill mention t...

Theres no such thing as
on January 30, 2021

Theres no such thing as being too cautious. Knowing when an important package arrives, when your food delivery is at the front door, or just knowing who exactly is at your front door are extremely important these days. Ive had a smart doorbell for the best couple of years. It was good but not great. I decided to upgrade to the Lorex 2k QHD smart doorbell and I didnt think this level of accuracy and customization was possible.
Installing: The Lorex 2K isnt overwhelming when you open the box. There are the install screws and a drill bit. Its not a bunch of pieces that might have some feeling hesitant about installing the doorbell. All you need is a drill and a screwdriver. The Lorex comes with two mounting brackets that allow for better viewing angles depending on the location of the Lorex doorbell. Follow the instructions thoroughly and your doorbell will be up and running in no time. It took me 20 minutes. Once installed, you download the Lorex Home app and youre on your way to utilizing the doorbell security. It also comes with a Chime kit that allows for customized doorbell notifications but since I was content with my existing doorbell sounds, I didnt install the Chime kit.
The Lorex 2K Advantage: My front porch is narrow and because of it being narrow, my previous smart doorbell wouldnt alert me each time there was someone at the front door until the doorbell was pressed. The Lorex 2K has a 164-degree view that provides a wider range of detection all before the doorbell is rung. This is beneficial in case someone approaches the front door whether it be a solicitor, a package delivery, or a stranger contemplating taking an already delivered package. And when someone is actually at the doorbell, I can see their ENTIRE body and FACE whereas my previous doorbell camera only showed below the shoulders if the person was anything taller than 55 because of the narrowness of the porch. Also, when someone is at the doorbell, the Lorex will take a snapshot of that person whether or not they have pressed the button. Not only is there a snapshot but theres also a short recording of the event that activated the notification. My previous video doorbell was sloppy in its recording of notification events. Theres a two-way speaker for those times where you might not be able to get to the door immediately. I tested the speaker several times and theres almost no lag when communicating with the person standing at the Lorex doorbell. The audio quality is clear and responsive! Its far better than what I had been accustomed to with my previous doorbell camera. The app allows for Quick Responses such as Please leave the package at the door or you can record your response(s). Theres a Timeline feature via the app and it allows you to review events that your Lorex notated or your can review the timeline recording that might have picked up activity that occurred beyond the immediate range of the Lorex doorbell camera. This could be useful for something that mightve happened in your neighborhood and any sort of surveillance footage might help. Keep in mind that the access to the Timeline will be limited meaning that you wont be able to access footage that was three months ago because the recording will eventually loop and record over old footage. However, you can easily go into the app and save footage that you may feel is important and saved it to your device.
Sensitivity: The Lorex 2K allows the user to customize the motion detection settings with great detail so that you are not being alerted whenever someone might be walking on the sidewalk. My previous doorbell camera would alert me often whenever I was mowing the front lawn. Each time I passed the vicinity of the camera, my phone was filled with someone is at the front door. I tested the Lorex and I wasnt bombarded with notifications. Now, if I wanted to, I could go into the app settings and increase the sensitivity but I am very pleased with the defa...
