Great for rice and beans. Need more information.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have some work to do to take full advantage of the grain and rice cooker. It works great for rice and beans. However, there is very little information included to tell how to do custom things. I would love to see more details in the manual and maybe some recipes that use them. Also, it would be great to see some recipes that add ingredients other than water to the pot and be able to make a full dish in it. That would help to align usefulness with price.

Some issues
on December 24, 2024

I like the ease of this product. But the rice doesn’t always turn out how I expect it. The the black surface of the pot is already coming off and leaving black specs throughout the rice. We only use wood utensils on this product and only hand wash. I haven’t been able to find any replacements for the pot either. I don’t feel comfortable serving rice to anyone now so it seems like we wasted our money since we can’t fix the issue.

Mixed Results
on December 23, 2024

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Mixed feelings about this device. Pro: It's very convenient for some uses, and a lot of thought has gone into creating it. Con: It doesn't handle grains very well, leaving a large mess even when cooking a minimal amount. Documentation is lacking.
Convenience: I bought this because I did not want to be wedded to the stove when making rice, and the other features sounded appealing. I have a dog whose health is improved when I add rice (and pumpkin) to his diet. This means cooking rice every other day. I could have purchased a rice cooker, but the grain cooking aspect was attractive. This grain cooker is very helpful in that respect; I can set it and walk away while it cooks from start to finish. It's cooked both short grain and basmati with precision.
Inconvenience: Unfortunately, the cooker boils over frequently when I cook oats -- cooked grain "mush" flows out the vents and all over the inside when cooking steel-cut oats, even less than one cup's worth -- the attached image shows a portion of the mess after I removed the cover plate to clean it. I'd like to open the "steam collector" when it fills with food, but I find that impossible, with no guide as to how to do it. Because I have the cooker, I've steamed broccoli for dinner, and it did that well. (Basically, it steams and you decide how long.) I have not tried cooking beans. I am concerned that this will boil over as well, but I should test it. I like the convenience, but I can only cook small amounts -- the minimum the device allows -- without a huge mess.

Don't Buy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The rice and green cooker is defective. It overcooks rice and quinoa and it malfunctions when you cook oats.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very DRY results. Does not work as described.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Grain and Rice Cooker was a good idea, but does NOT work as described. It consistently does NOT use enough water, leaving the cooked dish very dry. Because of this, I use the 'soft' setting, which adds more water in the cooking process for a better normal result. In some cases, there are some uncooked rice/grains, so I've had to add additional water after the cook cycle is complete. On the plus side: The program-ahead feature is convenient.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
