Not Ready for Prime Time

I bought the printer primarily to print attractive CD and DVD labels. The printer is supposed to have software that makes it possible to do that. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The software does not come with the printer, nor does it seem to be available as a download from Epson.

Just set up and installed a new Epson Artisan 835 on my home wireless network. Setting up took longer than expected but was flawless. Printed photos and docs right away, sharp, colors great. Using Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.6, no problems with interface or anything.

So far printing problems.....

This looks like a great machine that can do a lot. So far printing regular copies on 8x11 is fine. When it came down to printing photographs, Ive gotten ink smudges, color streaks, and even a little paper tear. disappointing to say the least.

I read review after review for many printers before deciding on the Epson. Now I am glad I chose what I chose. No printer - no machine - is perfect, but this printer does what it is asked with as little trouble as I have ever had with a printer. Treat it well and you will be treated well in return, and if by chance you did receive one of the few that just seen to have problems...just remember you are not perfect either; then contact Epson for warranty service on your printer.

Artisan 835

I purchased the 835 to replace a HP photosmart 6180 which had failed and could not be fixed. I chose the Epson because in my passed life, I worked with one of the basic patent holders of the "drop on demand" technology. He feels that Epson has done the best job of implementing the ink jet printing technology.
However, the paper tray is a piece of junk. It is flimsy and I expect it to be an early failure. The printing quality is good, but I can't recommend it because of the paper tray.

I love my new printer

This printer prints beautifully. It works fast. I found it to be pretty simple to operate and the only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I was printing pictures on my very first use and I did print a lot, but my printer got jammed (kept saying paper jam and couldn't find a paper jam) and I attempted to fix and couldn't so I gave up. Haven't used it since. I'm not saying it's broke, just didn't have the patience to keep messing with it, since I was working on it for a while. I also did buy it mainly for the use of printing pictures and scanning/home office use, but haven't been working much so haven't been printing. So overall, on the pictures I did print, they did come out nice.
