Really nice All-In-One

Got mine when it was on sale but the first one didn't work and I had to exchange it for a new one. New one works great as scanner, printer, photo printer, and disk printer. It does lots more stuff that I haven't tried yet.
It does use a lot of expensive ink when printing photos. The 99 series of ink cartridges that come with the included color cartridges don't hold a lot of ink and the store I bought my 835 from only has the small color cartridges. The Epson online store has the bigger 98 series of cartridges. The black ink that came with the 835 is the larger 98 size and the store where I bought mine carries it. The ink is special in that it takes a long time to fade which is what I wanted for my photos.
The photo prints have excellent quality, but are limited in size to 8.5 x 11 inches max. There's seperate trays for smaller photos and for cd/dvd disks. My older photo paper for a totally different printer bought 10 years ago didn't work well with the ink. The Epson photo paper works perfectly with the ink.

Don't buy if you print greeting cards
on December 18, 2011

This printer is okay except if you want to print your own greeting cards. The paper will not feed and there are no other alternatives. If you use anything over 24 lb paper, the paper will not feed and there are no other alternatives.

Cantankerous

The 835 is the most cantankerous printer I have ever owned and I have owned many in my over twenty years of working with pc printers.
It does a beautiful job of printing on paper (once it gets done buzzing, whirring, clicking, clanking and pausing). I've seen it go through over a minute of all that and then finally decide to print.
The loading of paper in this machine sets printing back decades in itself. One must remove a tray, load the blank sheets in the tray and reinstall the tray in the printer. Seriously, guys??
I send music demo CDs all over the world on a regular basis. I bought this printer because it was touted as one of the best "direct to disc" label printers available. True enough. The finished product is quite acceptable and the included software easy to use - IF you can get it to work.
My normal routine for CD printing is to unlock the front panel which allows the CD tray to extend,- maybe - wait as long as a minute for it to finally extend OR as today, upon requesting the CD tray, it tells me to power down and back up due to what - I have no clue. I just did this five times. On the sixth attempt it finally relented and offered me the CD tray. I gave it a whole two stars because if you can get it to print, it DOES do a nice job. It's getting to the finished product that is the challenge.
Oh and if one of the cartridges runs low, it shuts down all printing. No black print only. Oh, nooooo! One empty cartridge = no printing. Wow.

Epson Artison 835

I have owned Epson printers for several years. I believe they have the best print quality of any of the printers available.
With this one I do have one big complaint. It frequently feeds multilple sheets of paper. I can deal with this when printing one-sided sheets of paper but it is especially aggravating when trying to do the auto dupex printing available on this model. If not for this issue I would have given this printer 5 stars.

Good Printer, but.......

I've had the Epson Artisan 835 for about a year now and find it a decent printer with good print quality. My only complaints are that the paper is hard to load and sometimes jams, the paper tray looks flimsy, and ink is very expensive. I finally bought an aftermarket external ink supply that looks as good and costs 25% of Epson's cost.

I purchased this printer for my Photography business wanting to capability to send/receive, scan and e-mail bids and offers clients and perspective clients. What I got was a powerful, quality, and extremely functional product. This printer has been with me to multiple places including Alaska. I cannot really say enough about this printer. I was so impressed that I purchased on for my father, when his alder Epson quit. Since he struggles with Cancer and Parkinson's the wireless function is great for him. Thanks Epson for put out a quality versatile product. The next upgrade will also be an Epson.
