It takes a few tries to get the mix amount right. The recommended amount in the instructions is too much. Start with 2/3 that amount so you don't have a mess.

We love this little waffle iron. We recently had to replace the one that we had for over 20 years because we accidentally put the wrong mix in it and it burnt onto the insides, rendering it useless.
