While the vacuum does its job, very well I might add. My only grievance is that when I have the vacuum upright to roll to bring to next location or to put away. The wheels constantly fall down to put the brushes down making it difficult to maneuver. I’m not sure if this is how it’s designed or if I got one that doesn’t lock fully. It is just very frustrating. I’d recommend if they fixed this issue. But I can’t on good conscience knowing this major flaw.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're happy to hear that cleaning wise, you have been very pleased with the performance from your Ball Animal 3 Complete. Your new vacuum features the quick recline feature. This will avoid the need for pedals or stepping on the front of the machine as with our non-ball models. Rolling the unit around from room to room is recommended to be done with the ball instead of the stabilizer wheels on the back of the ball. You can then put the unit upright once you are done with cleaning and for storage.

Love it to push and pull cleaning. But as soon as you are ready to get the nooks and crannies this vacuum is ready to be sent back to the warehouse. The hose is so stiff and clunky you literary strain your muscles trying to use. Anything about waist level like on top a dresser impossible to easily clean because the hose has so much tension. I’m going to give it another 3 weeks but first impression I miss my sharks easy ergonomics. I cleaned my car with the hose and it is so clunky and rigid. When I first tried using hose I was left frustrated where to lay the extendable wand/vaccums backbone. The solid bar doesn’t have a home you have to leave it on the floor or toss it onto a couch. All these fancy gadgets but the engineers can figure out where to house the vaccine backbone?!? I will have to decide if the cleaning power is worth the extra hassle. It will definitely slow you down, if you want a fast clean this isn’t for you.

Thank you for your feedback on Dyson Ball Animal 3. We appreciate you taking the time to share with us. We would expect the hose to become more flexible with time and use and recommend checking to ensure the wand is not obstructed and that the hose is not sucking into itself as the hose is not something we would expect to be an issue during use. Should you have any further questions or concerns we can help to address, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at askdysonUS@dyson.com.
I put it together, following all instructions, plugged it in and immediately smelled in electrical odor. I turned it on and began to pulse on and off. I adjusted the floor setting and turned it on again. It post on and off a few more times and then one ounce for good, so disappointing! My last Dyson, I have had for 10 years and loved it. This is a joke!

Hello, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. It's very uncommon to hear that one of our upright vacuums was pulsing on or off, losing power. That is not something that should occur with one of our corded machines, and we're concerned to hear that this happened. We would like to learn more about your experience, so that we can make things right for you. Please get in touch with me directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. I'll be looking forward to receiving your correspondence.
Our last vacuum was a DC-07. Used it for 18 years. It was a great vacuum overall, and would still be going strong today, but my wife needs something easier to handle due to her bad back. She narrowed her choices down to two vacuums: the Ball Animal 3, and a competitor's. Obviously, given our positive experience with the DC-07, we went with the Dyson, and also because the competitor's model still uses bags (seriously?) which we didn't want to deal with.
In terms of engineering, the Ball Animal 3 is impressive. The suction is incredibly powerful. In fact, it's so powerful that in some cases--like bathroom rugs, hallway runners, etc--it's actually a detriment because the rug buckles as you're pulling the vacuum back. My wife likes the head design; it's lower to the ground so it can get into tighter spaces under chairs, etc. I also like that you can see the brush bar while operating the vacuum, so you know whether it's spinning or needs to be cleaned. So as far as engineering and technology are concerned, the Ball Animal 3 is fantastic.
The vacuum's Achille's heal, however, is its ergonomics. This is not an easy vacuum to use, and requires a fair amount of strength to push around. I'm 6'3" 250+ lbs, and by the time I'm finished vacuuming with the Ball Animal 3, my shoulder feels like it's going to fall off, and my back hurts for about a half hour afterwards, from the coccyx up to the middle. If *I'm* this stiff, sore, sweating like a pig, and gasping for air after using the vacuum, imagine what it must be like for my poor wife and her bad back! This vacuum does not "roll" or "glide" across the carpet, and frankly I also feel it's a lot harder to maneuver. On a positive note, though, the clutch mechanism is in a much more user-friendly location now (an electronic switch next to the power button versus having to bend over and manipulate a mechanical knob); but then Dyson goes and cancels it out by putting the suction adjustment slider in an even more inconvenient location than where the DC-07 clutch knob was. My wife likes the wand on this unit better than the DC-07. I disagree, but I do like that the tools can be directly attached to the hose now. That's probably the best improvement Dyson made, ergonomically speaking. Unfortunately, the main chassis/body still "follows" you around whenever you stretch the hose, getting in the way and making the job harder. The on-board storage of the tools isn't very good, either, and seems like it was more of an afterthought. The brush bar is much easier to remove on the Ball Animal 3. It's more of a sleeve that fits over the actual rotating mechanism, so no special tool is required to disconnect the drive belt from the roller bar. Lastly, both filters on the Ball Animal 3 are washable (the post-motor filter on the DC-07 wasn't washable and had to be replaced periodically, and was difficult to access).
Now as for the construction of the Ball Animal 3, that remains in question. Some of the plastic, particularly in the handle and the flip-up wand end cap, is really flimsy and bends way too much. I feel like it's going to snap or permanently deform at any moment. However, being open-minded, perhaps the flexibiltiy helps _prevent_ the plastic from snapping. I don't know. Time will tell.
I'm torn. On the one hand, I want the Ball Animal 3 to give us 18+ years of reliable service like the DC-07 did; but on the other hand, I am not looking forward to my wife and I (especially her) having to lug this thing around while using it. We may be back in the market sooner than later.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic review. We love to hear and learn from our owners; both the good and bad. We were so happy to hear many years of use you got out of your former DC07 vacuum. Those models were work horses; owners who had or still have this model, LOVE it! It really speaks to the quality of Dyson products, how long you were able to use this machine in your home.
We're sorry to know that you haven't had the same - or better - experience with your new Ball Animal 3 Extra. You did touch on the suction power in your feedback. This machine does offer 290 air watts of suction power, which is our most powerful upright to date. The Anti-tangle Motorbar cleaner head does have suction control, so you should be able to position the slider to make vacuuming things like area rugs or bath mats easier. Try moving that slider all the way to the left, and see if that helps the issue. If you are finding the machine hard to push all the time, and moving that slider doesn't seem to make things any easier, let me know!
I appreciate your comments on the location of the slider. It does require the user to bend over and reach fairly low; we appreciate hearing that. We wouldn't expect any parts to feel flimsy or like they may break, but know that if you should ever encounter anything breaking or snapping, we're always on standby to provide needed assistance. If you have any other questions or concerns that we can help you with, you can reach me directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com.
We have a black lab, and I always vacuum the carpet before I use our carpet cleaner! Every time I clean out the carpet cleaner it's partly full of black lab hair! This tells me the Dyson isn't doing it job very well! I believe its the new anti-tangle brush because our previous Dyson worked better!

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for sharing your review here. We're sorry to hear that you've encountered some suction or pick-up issues with your Ball Animal 3. That's uncommon to hear; Ball Animal 3 offers 290 air watts of strong suction power, and these models were also engineered to be effective in homes with pets. It's disappointing to know that we seem to have fallen short here.
Your Anti-tangle Motorbar cleaner head does have suction control. The three levels of suction are controlled by the slider on the front of the cleaner head, and you can slide that suction control to suit the floor type or debris you're picking up. If you do find that pet hair is getting left behind, you can position the slider to the left, center or right, depending on your needs.
If you'd like further support for your machine, or have any other questions/concerns we can help with, you can get in touch with me directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com.
I received the ball animal 3 today and this is an amazing vacuum. I was wary after reading some of the reviews and was afraid I had made a mistake. I was so very wrong. I am 61 and live on a farm. If it is bad weather everything comes in on the 2 dogs. This vacuum has powerful suction and on the first use pulled so much out of the carpet. A breeze on the hard floor. This is a sturdy well made vacuum. It is NOT heavy or hard to push. Do not be afraid of that at all! I had a Dyson years ago and went to a competitor for my last vacuum. Dyson. I will never choose another vacuum again. Hands down the best vacuum. Thank you!!!
Bought this in October 2022. Having a Shiba Inu and a Tabby cat, it’s an amazing vacuum at picking up animal fur with ease. When I first vacuumed my apartment with this, I had to empty the dirt container twice before all the dust, dirt and fur wasn’t piled up. I vacuum pretty much everyday with this thing and, like you’d expect from a Dyson, it leaves no dirt, dust or fur behind. Although, being 5’2 and 155 pds, this thing is heavy. It gets a little easier to handle after having used it so much, but it doesn’t get any lighter. Especially after a long day and already being tired as it is. The cord also gets annoying… there’s no ease in having to move around with it plugged in. Vacuuming with the hose with the wand/attachments can also be annoying (though if you can ignore the awkwardness of it all, it does vacuum everything up). It’s rigid and if you don’t maneuver your way correctly, the vacuum can fall or tilt over as your trying to vacuum utilizing the hose. I didn’t get the wireless dysons bcuz of reviews of them dying at full power after 30 mins.. and the truth is that I don’t know if I’d recommend this particular product or not… it has its pros and cons. Since I spent the money on it, I’m definitely going to be keeping it until it’s dead and it’s warranty runs out, but if you’re on the fence and you’re looking for something with power and ease of use/maneuverability - don’t buy this one.
This is my second Dyson. My first is an Animal Ball 2. It is still going strong other than my hose has a tear in it. It is almost 5 years old and I use it 7 days a week! I have OCD really bad so I clean every day. If something can take the abuse I put it through it has to be good. I wanted to get the latest model so I got the Animal Ball 3. I love the new motor bar cleaner head. It works very well and is easy to adjust between my thick carpet and my tile. It is also easy to clean. There is a button on the side that allows it to swivel up to pull the beater bar cover off to clean. The head is also smaller than my 2 which allows me to get in between chairs and such that my other wouldn’t allow. I won’t ever use another vacuum again. I’ve tried two of the biggest competitors and they don’t even compare. Seems like all the negative reviews on here are people being babies. Yes, my machine will fall over sometimes when I use the hose to clean something. Big deal. Most of the time I don’t go out far enough for it to fall over. The main thing I want my machine to do is pick up the stuff on the floor and this one does it incredibly well. I cannot believe how strong the suction is. So far I am very happy with this vacuum. Also, I have read many reviews talking about how heavy this vacuum is. I can pick it up with one arm and it ain’t very heavy at all. And my shoulders are terrible. It’s actually one of the lighter ones. Much lighter than older dyson’s. I have thick high pile carpet and it goes over it easily. You have to adjust the cleaner head to the floor type you are using. I also read someone say this animal 3 doesn’t pick up as good as the animal 2. That is NOT true. If someone isn’t satisfied with this vacuum, they won’t be satisfied with any.
