I've only had this for 2 days now and I hate it. It's SO hard to push! I've tried adjusting every setting possible, including the one for floor height (hard/plush). It is easy to push on the wood floor, but does not pick up tiny bits of dry dog food.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased my Animal 3 two months ago. I have owned Dyson Vacuum since they were introduced in the US and they were all good but some of the features make this the best. The best advancement is the brush which, having no center support picks up very cleanly. It also is completely redesigned so the pet hair doesn't get stuck in the bristles. With 2 dogs and a cat in the house this is very important. I bought it for the superior suction and it doesn't disappoint. It actually lifts the wall to wall carpet off it's pad so you know it is getting the deep soil out. Yes, it can be hard to push because of the suction but there is a deep carpet setting which relieves some of the force needed. I am 71 years old and manage to push mine on carpet with the middle height setting. I have seen no indication of cheaper plastic being used, but only time will tell if that is true. The oldest Dyson that I haven't given away is over 15 years old and I have made a few repairs to plastic parts but it still runs great. We have a 3 story house and have a vacuum on each floor and I keep and old one in the garage for the cars.
Dyson vacuums are good and have great suction but, they only last between two and three years.

Got my new Dyson ball animal 3 gold this afternoon. First the good point: It’s powerful and picks up dog hair better than my old dyson ball animal vac.
Now the negative points: Instructions to assemble the floor attachment are very poor. I couldn’t get it to click in and stay on. It kept falling off when I first started vacuuming the floor. Finally got it to stay on, I think. I can put handles together without instructions.
Also no booklet to explain tools that came with dyson vac. I have an extra extension and don’t even know how to use it or how to apply attachment to place on vac for an attachment.
Very disappointed in Dyson. Cheaper plastic parts than my old dyson. Do not recommend for elderly people, especially if you’re not a body builder. This dyson is much heavier than my old dyson ball for animals. I just vacuumed my living room only and my back is hurting.
I’m a reader and like illustrations which do not exist with my new vacuum. Also there’s a filter in machine which I’m assuming is a Hepa filter, but I did not see anything that advertised this filter on the dyson site. Nor did it have recommendations of how often to change this filter or if this washable. No mention at all. Shame on dyson.
I did read the reviews on this vacuum and there were several negative comments, but I thought oh no not Dyson products. Something must be off, but now I see why the negative comments are present.
I have other Dyson products that I love, but this vac and incomplete instructions on assembly and information on tools are very poor.

I must 2nd the review below called "irritating quirks." The lack of information in the instructions is surprising considering how much this vacuum costs. Just pictures? It took my daughter and me about 20 minutes to actually figure it out. There's a part I don't even know what it does, been Googling it, so far still have no clue. The way the hose comes out and the extension is strange and not intuitive. The product does work well so far. I've only had it one day. However, overall, I expected more from such an expensive machine.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to read your review here, and to learn that you found the Bal Animal 3 difficult to assemble. We do have guide videos on our website, which you may find very useful here: https://www.dyson.com/support/vacuum-cleaners/uprights/ball-animal-3
The tool you shared a photo of is actually a clip that attaches to your machine, to hold two additional tools. If you click the link above and watch the "Getting Started" video, you'll see where that piece attaches to the machine. If you have any other questions/concerns, please get in touch with us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com.
I just put my Dyson Animal 3 together and used it. I have plush carpet and it seemed a little easier to push than my Dyson Multi Floor. I had just vacuumed with the Multi Floor Vacuum and the Animal 3 picked up additional dog hair. The carpet height adjustment tab seems to be helpful on the thicker carpet. The bristles on the brush bar didn’t get carpet fuzz stuck in them like on the Dyson Multi Floor model. I have soft new carpet, so that is good.
My one disappointment is the the length of the cleaning head is only 11 inches whereas on my Dyson Multi Floor it is over 13 inches. Therefore, I have to make more passes to clean. Also, the vacuum leaves a track in the carpet which is down the center of the path. It is about an inch wide track, the same distance as between the 2 balls on the base. I am not sure if I will keep the vacuum for those reasons.
I bought my Dyson smallball multifloor from its original owner more than two years ago, which might put it out of warranty, unfortunately. Today I started it and within 30 seconds the engine died, and will no longer start. It was a wonderful machine, but as rugged and sturdy as it is I did not expect the model's premature death. Unless there is a reset button with which I am not familiar, the vacuum seems to be a goner, or perhaps you can familiarize me with some troubleshooting steps I could be overlooking.
