Best Cleaning / Worst Durability

This was my second Dyson. My first one lasted 10 years! This one has lasted less than one year. The suction and cleaning power is second to none. Pulled out the deepest of dirt and pet hair. The design was cumbersome and the cheap plastic was a constant source of concern, but I was willing to overlook that for the cleaning power. The real disappointment came last week when, less than a year after I bought it, the roller brush stopped working. After some internet research and repair video watching we have determined that there is a switch that has failed somewhere and will need to be replaced. There are no repair facilities in my state, nor in the surrounding states, so I now have a hunk of cheap plastic trash. So disappointing. I won't buy another one at these prices.

This is my first and last Dyson. I was so excited after hearing how great Dyson is, but it is my biggest regret when it comes to appliance purchases. It is unbelievably heavy, and the hose used for attachments is so difficult and unwieldy. I cannot impress enough have physically difficult and demanding it is to use this machine. I can't imagine a frail person being able to use this. You need strength, stamina and patience. In addition, the piece that keeps the vacuum upright while using the hose broke on the 2nd use. Now I have to hold up the heavy vacuum upright while trying to maneuver the hose, which is next to impossible and physically exhausting. If you live in a small apartment, the hose is so stiff, it won't bend well and if there is not a lot of room between furniture, you'll be knocking things off and hitting the walls and ceiling with the attachments. It's hard to believe this machine passed any serious testing. I am so disappointed. For the expensive price and reputation, I feel duped.

This is a full size upright vacuum, and the weight is just over 17 pounds, which is on par with the majority of our other uprights. We wouldn't expect that the machine is so heavy, that it's completely unbearable to use, but are sorry that seems to have been your experience. There should not be any parts on your machine that have broken after just two uses, and we'd like to learn more about this, and make things right. We would not expect this to be your experience. Great for home with 2 dogs and 2 cats!

Bought this about 2-3 months ago. I have 2 Neapolitan Mastiffs and 2 cats. The amount of hair in my house is crazy. The first run with this vacuum made me question what the old one was doing for me. It’s light enough to move with ease and cleans up amazingly!

Don't bother with this one

This is my second Dyson vacuum cleaner. My first one, a DC 14, still has great suction, but the carpet beater bar no longer works and I can't get replacement parts any longer. in my opinion, this model is inferior to my original vacuum. It has weak suction and is very awkward to use. The wand is hard to re attach to the frame and I find the hard floor attachment to be almost useless due to the poor design and weak suction of the unit. The only piece I like is the dog grooming attachment that came with the vacuum. I am extremely disappointed in this unit, especially considering the price. I still use my old model DC 14 for everything but the carpets.

This model features the most powerful suction among our line of uprights, so it's highly unusual to hear that there is weak or little suction power. Your older DC14 model offers suction power of 250 air watts, and the Ball Animal 3 offers 290 air watts of suction so you should be noticing that it's a bit more powerful. Loss of suction can be caused by a blockage some place within your machine and we'd be happy to help. Now it won't pick anything up

I bought this thing less than a year ago. Last June, I wrote a review to comment on the hose that won't stay extended. Dyson said, in effect, that I should just use it more. Didn't work. Now the machine won't pick up anything including bits of dog hair on a hard floor. I have cleaned both filters and looked inside the machine to find any obstructions. There aren't any. The hose does have suction for some reason. My one-star rating remains in effect.

My previous DYSON was easy to use & maneuver -- we had it over 15 years.
I am disappointed with my new vacuum. I am considering a return. .The wand is awkward and hard to direct. The suction is so strong I cannot use it on area rugs.

Your machine features an Anti-tangle Motorbar™ cleaner head, with suction control. This slider allows you to adjust suction right at the head, to adjust suction for the flooring type you're cleaning. If you're still finding the machine hard to push, it can be caused by a compatibility issue with your flooring. We do always suggest checking with your flooring manufacturer to see what guidelines they may have in place with regard to suction or even using a spinning brush bar.

hard to push tools are not interchangable

My old dyson animal died after 11 years of service. I bought this one because purple is out of stock. This is one is extremely difficult to push. I also own a cannister. The accessories are NOT interchangable. very disappointed because I loved my old dyslon

Your machine features an Anti-tangle Motorbar™ cleaner head, with suction control. The three levels of suction are controlled by the slider on the front of the cleaner head. Slide the suction control to suit the floor type. If you are having trouble pushing your machine, try the suction mode on the left. Depending on which older model Dyson you own, some of the tools or attachments may not be compatible. We'd be happy to help answer any other questions or concerns you have on using your machine. Dyson machines are made from polycarbonate ABS, which is same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. They are tough, so we subject them to 50,000 hours of testing and 550 individual tests – all to ensure that they can withstand a lifetime’s hard use.
