Great machine, love design (Opal 1.0 Angled Design

We’ve owned now three ice makers, one of which was a GE Opal with the circle button in the center and slide out square ice bin. I believe that was an Opal 1.0 technically. We owned rhat for two years and loved it, which led us to this one because our original suffered an untimely breakdown where we couldn’t stop it from getting a mold or residue in the ice bin regardless of the water we used(distilled or tap) and regardless of the frequency of cleaning and descaling. So, if the original we had only lasted two years and is pricey, we had to ask ourselves if we should invest again in the same or a different one. Bottom line for us, is we felt this type of ice and having it on demand was something we didn’t want to be without once we enjoyed having it. It’s the “good ice” and it is really good ice. As I mentioned, we bought a smaller “other brand” nugget ice machine and to be honest it was okay ice, but side by side when we got this one there’s just no comparison. The GE Opal ice is that good. It’s different and better. This machine, which is also branded Opal 1.0, is sleek and a little different than our original. It’s angled, has more of a bucket style way to access the ice than a drawer style. It doesn’t squeak or squeal, it is super quiet, and has a good capacity. We re-used our original side tank which adds capacity of about 1 gallon and to be honest is really something you’ll regret not owning. The new angled style side tank is sold out currently but we will eventually get it to compliment the contours of the new machine. That said, the other style of the original fits great, works great, and still works great so don’t be deterred if that’s what you’d prefer or can get. Overall, we are very pleased with this machine and do hope it lasts for a long time but having it for a week now and using it daily, it’s a great piece of machinery. Would highly recommend.

I’ve only had this for a few days. Set up was easy and it’s very easy to use. I love the ice, it’s exactly what I was hoping for in a nugget ice maker. I only wish it were a little quieter. It’s not obnoxious, but the humming sound it makes is louder than my refrigerator. So far, I just let it make ice until I have what I think I need for a while and transfer it to the freezer ice dispenser. This way I don’t have to listen to the loud hum constantly. Our water is very hard, so this makes making ice easier than using ice trays and distilled water.

I have owned other brands of ice makers and this machine is far superior to the others. It has a quiet and smooth operation and makes wonderful chewable ice. I love this machine!

The best ice!

I love this ice maker! It makes the best chewable nugget ice like us ice chewers crave. It is pretty quiet compared the my previous ice maker. Make sure you have counter space for it, it is kind of big. I love the quick self cleaning process as well.

Built To Work, Built To Last

Out of the box , the ice maker was larger than anticipated. The unit would not fit under my kitchen cabinets so make sure you measure. The Opal nugget ice maker has a very sleek look with the stainless steel contrasted by the piano black top. Functionally, I love how quickly and effectively it produces with a minimal amount of noise. There is no external moisture or leakage which makes it safe for any surface. Opening the lid reactivates the ice making function , recycling any melted ice. This unit is not cheap but the quality and efficiency more the justifies the price. I’m glad I made the investment.
