Disappointed

I bought 2 of these for use as portable home speakers. I thought that they would be good to stream music from my computer (I have a huge amount of music downloaded on my computer and want to use it as my home system base) and phone and I was planning on buying more speakers to fill a few rooms with sound. The voice activated speakers are deal breakers for me so I was attracted to these as they have no mic. Well, when I first got them and downloaded the JBL portable app they worked fine. I was able to use partyboost with my phone in stereo although I had to re-activate stereo mode each time I powered them on. They worked in partyboost mode with my computers Bluetooth. I was happy enough even though I was disappointed that stereo was not available with my computer. Then I made the mistake of updating the software on both speakers. Now partyboost won't work with the Bluetooth on my computer, only one speaker at a time works. Unfortunately I didn't do the research before I bought them as I now see it says that multiple speakers won't work with a computer. (They did before the software update, why change that JBL!?) I don't know why JBL would limit their products like that as there are other Bluetooth speakers that work under that stereo configuration with a computer perfectly AND you don't have to download an app, run that app AND set it up for stereo EVERY time you turn it on with your phone. The app is not available for a computer. (Insert head exploding emoji here!) Let alone the fact that it won't work with more than one speaker on a Bluetooth computer. I tried resetting them to factory default but alas once I had updated the software the damage was done. They sound ok for a small portable speaker however their limited functionality for my purpose has me returning them. Back to the drawing board, looking for a different company to supply my multi room speakers. Highly disappointed.

Great sound quality, app is outdated

Could use more or the basic feature others offer and the app needs improvement its outdated and the eq is lame.....but the sound quality is off the hook

Love features compared to the charge 4

You can definitely hear the volume is way more powerful in the charge 5 compared to the 4. I was due for an upgrade and so happy I came to this website without hesitation!! Love love my new speaker and the color. Super durable and perfect for truck rides !!

I have had two Charge 5 speakers during the past two months and both have popped and cracked to the point of being worthless. Worst speakers I have ever purchased.

Thanks for your feedback on our JBL Charge 5. We're here to help; please try connecting the speakers to a different device (phone, tablet, or music player) to see if it fixes the problem. Also, you can try resetting the speaker by pressing the Volume+ and Play/Pause Long presses for 2 seconds while the speaker is ON. Then perform the pairing method to pair the speaker to the device. If you need more help, please reach out to our customer support for assistance.

I bought this for my daughter. After I had purchased 1 myself. Her old speaker needed replacment. She loves her charge5 and I love mine. Great sound and battery life.

Poor battery

I bought a Charge 4 approximately five years ago and then upgraded to a charge 5 within the past year or so. Both still work and I switch between them when the other is charging so both have been getting about half the use they would normally get. Recently I used both for an outdoor party and the charge 4 lasted six hours and the charge 5 lasted only three. Both were on full volume the entire time playing similar music. So the battery on the Charge 5 lasted only half as long as the charge 4 which is about four years older. The sound is excellent and easily filled a large outdoor space but the battery just wasn’t up to par.

In addition, please know that it wears out over time. Even if listening at maximum volume to heavy bass music, the battery should last longer than 60% of the published playtime.
