I just put my Dyson Animal 3 together and used it. I have plush carpet and it seemed a little easier to push than my Dyson Multi Floor. I had just vacuumed with the Multi Floor Vacuum and the Animal 3 picked up additional dog hair. The carpet height adjustment tab seems to be helpful on the thicker carpet. The bristles on the brush bar didn’t get carpet fuzz stuck in them like on the Dyson Multi Floor model. I have soft new carpet, so that is good.
My one disappointment is the the length of the cleaning head is only 11 inches whereas on my Dyson Multi Floor it is over 13 inches. Therefore, I have to make more passes to clean. Also, the vacuum leaves a track in the carpet which is down the center of the path. It is about an inch wide track, the same distance as between the 2 balls on the base. I am not sure if I will keep the vacuum for those reasons.

Great vacuum for pet and people hair. The suction is great and leaves my house way cleaner than my precious vacuum. So worth the extra money. I have used mine on flooring, high carpet and area rugs and it does amazing! Highly recommended if you have pets in the home and need to control their hair and dirt.

Good Suction, Good Extender Wand vs. Wobbly / Hot

PROS -- We had a roughly 15 year old Dyson that we maintained but wanted more suction. We got that now. Hard floor performance is excellent, and our berber-style carpet is handled almost as well (I often don't use the carpet setting because it's too hard to push -- it's a real). The extender wand is much easier to use than the older model. The main brush does reduce long hair tangles. Awesome.
CONS -- This is a HOT vacuum. I sweat anyway when doing the whole house in swoop, but after doing two room standing near this thing I feel like I've been standing next to a jet engine. I'm shocked the motor doesn't burn up in flame. Also, the vacuum is a bit wobbly and I mist the stable platform I could drag around by the hose on the previous model we had. Further, the dust bin is much smaller and the plastic much thinner -- plastic just gives out over time, but I think it will be quicker on this vacuum.
I'd like to compare a Shark model of the same caliber next to this one, but I'm not made of money. We flipped a coin and went with Dyson again. Time will tell.

Great picking up dog hair but...

I had a Dyson for about 15 yrs. Took it for routine maintenance once. Occasionally a string would get wrapped around the bar and I would have to take it apart, not a big deal. I've had 3 dogs while owning this vacuum, the most recent was a husky we had for 7 years. It worked great. A month ago my son moved out and took his husky with him. I decided he would need a good vacuum and knew he couldn't afford a dyson on his own so I gave him mine. Still works great and have the needed attachments. He was thrilled as his girlfriends vacuum died. I researched several before I decided on another Dyson. This is great at picking up hair and whatever else it finds but it's made much cheaper, doesnt move as smooth as my old standard one and the tubing for the handheld is shorter. I used to be able to reach the ceiling easily. I struggle now. I think the warranty is only 3yrs now too. Was 5. I considered trading back with my son but I'm gonna be paying it off for a few more months. That being said, I like the function, wish the form and price were better.

Hello,
Thank you for your review. This is Miella from Dyson. We can understand your concern with your Ball Animal 3 upgrade. The Ball Animal 3 upright machine is made of ABS plastic, which is the same material in police riot shields. They all go through a very rigorous testing phase to ensure they can withstand much more than your average bump and drop.
The max reach is a little over 15 feet for the Ball Animal 3, and out the box, the hose may be more stiff since it's new. However, it will become much more flexible over time. In the meantime, we recommend pulling the wand/hose all the way out before using it to utilize the reach.
We'd value the opportunity to learn more about your experience with your Dyson as we'd like to help ensure you are having a 5-star experience. Please feel free to reach out to us at askdysonUS@dyson.com, and we will be in touch.
Best Wishes, Miella Dyson Customer Support

Great with pickup but a little disappointed

As other reviews note, this machine is very heavy and a little clunky. That was surprising to me as I always thought these machines moved with ease. There was a learning curve to using it and has a lot of attachments to figure out what works best & where. I will say we have 5 pets and the suction is great-It is also nice that machine easily comes apart to clean.

Mostly good vacuum

Have owned this vacuum for 2 ish months. Overall a good vacuum. The hose is stiff and doesn’t like to say extended but hopefully with time it will relax a bit. The exhaust does run very hot when using. My previous vacuum would blow a bit warm with use but this one blows HOT air out which I did not expect but doesn’t harm the unit itself. The articulating floor tool is handy if you have a lot of hard flooring/hard to reach areas or if you don’t want to push the vacuum itself across your floors.

Animal 2 to Animal 3

I have two long hair dogs. I got an Animal 2 and when it finally broke down (7 years later after almost daily use) I went out and bought a 3 without question. Have been very happy with my “Animals”.
