Not so great

Vacuum falls apart a lot, it has to be held at just the right angle or the dirt won’t go all the way into the canister. The ball makes it difficult to control. I loved my old Dyson which is why I bought another one. I really wish I hadn’t.

The patented Dyson Ball technology is designed to make maneuvering and control easier. Out-the-box, the joints can be a bit stiff since it's so new, but after several uses, the Ball will swivel and maneuver a lot easier.

Not as good as my old Dyson

I bought this a few months ago so have had plenty of time to try it. Overall I am disappointed. It is much louder and less maneuverable than my last Dyson I had for 10+years. The attachments aren’t very helpful and the wand requires a lot of stent to use as it is heavy and not very flexible. It does have great power and gets the job done but its pretty expensive for a vacuum that feels like a workout and annoys me every time I use it. Major design flaws on this one! wish I could have gotten something like my old Dyson.

Super suction but heavy

This vacuum has superior suction. Being 79, it is hard to push on the carpeting throughout the house. The long hose for stair use etc. is stiff and takes some strength to keep it open to full length. However, even though it is hard to use I would not trade it for another. My rugs have never been this free of dust and cat hair.
I would recommend this to a friend!

So, the previous model I had had a 14 inch head. Now it is less then 12 inches, which makes it harder to turn, and covers less on each pass. Really a poor decision of them to make this change.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Just got my Animal 3 after my DC41 broke after 10 years. I had issues with shipping since it took over a week. Definitely didn't get 2 day shipping but it was Thanksgiving week so I'll chalk it up to that. The performance is great. A lot more suction than my DC41 which performed great. May be too much of a good thing. The suction makes it a workout to use on carpet. It may get better after using it a while. Using it on hardwood floors is great and I like being able to turn off the beater bar.
Luckily my tools from my DC41 fit the Animal 3. Using it on small rugs is impossible due to the powerful suction. Even with the beater bar off it will suck the rugs up off the floor. I've found a way around that even though it's an extra step. Use the turbine tool on the end of the wand on the rugs. It works great. The head is smaller than my DC41 but I don't see that as a negative.
Now the bad: using it on carpet is a workout. The powerful suction is a double edged sword here. It might get better after using it a while. My DC41 broke at the lower hose assembly point which is made of cheap plastic. Sadly the new Animal 3 has the same assembly and it's still made of plastic. It will break after 5 years. I think it is a little bit heavier than my DC41.

I like the ball animal 2 version much better

I had a ball animal 2 for about 10 years, and I absolutely loved it! It needed repairs, and we were moving, so I thought I’d just replace it instead of moving it. I wish I would have taken my old one with me! The 3 is fine, but I’m not happy that you have to pay extra for the “pet hair tool” that came with the previous version (that I didn’t keep not thinking I’d have to pay extra for it with the new one). I don’t like the vents at the top of the hose, when it’s on and in the standing position it’s really loud to hear the suction. Plus, if you don’t shut it off before standing it up, your arm will get slightly suctioned to it. Just a terrible design feature. The wand is much more cumbersome to get in/out, on the 2 it was so smooth and effortless. I’ve had it just over a week now, I’m contemplating returning it and just trying a different brand. For the amount I paid, I expected to be just as happy as I was with the previous version.

I had one of the very first Dyson Ball that came out. I LOVED that vacuum. Unfortunately, pieces broke off and I needed to replace it. The Dyson Ball 3 is a huge transition. It isn’t as solid. I feel as if I’m going to break it every time I use it. I’m trying to get used to it but it will take a while.

Good for rugs, (for me) useless otherwise

Decided that it's time to pay the price and get a Dyson, but little did I know that I'll end up being very disappointed with my purchase. After using it once to clean a NYC apartment, this is what I think:
- a chore became a workout - the vacuum is really heavy, takes a strong arm, even on hardwood floors. I'm saying this as a still active athlete.
- hard to maneuver, I feel like I got the hang of it after an hour or so, but I still don't find it easy enough
- the combination of weight and tricky maneuverability puts a lot of stress on the handle, which is quite flimsy, I don't know how long it'll last before it breaks (at least it can be bought separately, out of stock at the moment, though)
- using the hose is the most frustrating thing. The spring inside the hose is too strong, which makes it almost impossible to extend it without the vacuum trying to follow the hose a moment after it's extended. Maybe the spring will loosen up a bit, but my experience was infuriating.
- in order to clean under the bed & sofa, will need to purchase an additional tool (Articulating hard floor tool) which is out of stock at the moment. The tools that come with the machine and the Allergy Cleaning Kit are't articulated so it's impossible to have them flush with the floor when the wand is close to being held horizontally
The only positive I can find for now is that it did a good job on the rugs, hence the 2 stars.
Given all this, I'm seriously considering returning it.
